still letting these iranians play you for a fool. when he says iran has no issues with any country, ask him whether he feels israel should be wiped off the earth. when he says iran and usa have common objectives in iraq, ask him about iran militias killing our soldiers. when he says iran has no intention of building a nuclear bomb and have been compliant with IAEA, ask him about the latest report and how govenments of every single nation in the world, including russia and china have, believe iran is working toward a bomb and has not lived up to its obligations toward the national community. please charlie, before bringing in an iranian to articulate that iran has no evil plans toward any nation of the world, please prepare with some iranians who can explain to you more clearly as to what this nightmare iranian government is all about and about their messianic aspirations. way too soft, charlie.

@efeinbe2 Who is the USA, that the world has to answer to. Doesn't the USA have nuclear weapons as well? Does the USA want to be the only world power, and hence is so afraid of the rise of other world powers, for example China? The USA is just acting so big, but she has to know that other powers are fast catching up
SharkswithfrikingLazers 01/24/2012 02:01 AM Report
Charlie, is there a way to help the one million cancer patients he mentions that cannot wait any longer?
Is there a way to even check the veracity of the statement?
SharkswithfrikingLazers 01/24/2012 01:58 AM Report
The P5-plus-1 refers to the five permanent U.N. Security Council members -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States -- plus Germany.
Charlie, you ask in reference to America but perhaps if you phrase the questions as if asking for the P5-plus-1 (I did not even know what this was until I looked it up) then Iran will appear as the bad world citizen rather than just a country with a debt of revenge to pay the US of A.
Iran, is the world now against you and your best friends even worse than having no friends at all?
efeinbe2 01/23/2012 10:59 AM Report
Iran shouldn't repeat the same mistake Saddam did. Even though he was telling the truth about not having WMD, he was too prideful to even appear to submit to the West and allow inspections. Either Iran is lying in which case they deserve whatever they get, or they're telling the truth and are hoping the U.S. won't follow through on its threats. They better smarten up if its the latter; too many people would love to take out Iran given the opportunity, WMD or not.

The murder, genocide and repression of the Bahai believers in Iran is sufficient to condemn that nation's leaders to hell forever after -- until they change their murderous ways to obey a civilized standard.

An interview remarkable in one way only; the utter childishness with which the issues are put forth.
As much as I respect Mr. Rose, he falls apart when dealing with foreign affairs as he adopts the boy scout attitude that the U.S.A. is necessarily a force for good, despite a long history of interference and subversion in that region of the world.
ShalomFreedman 01/20/2012 07:49 AM Report
The Ambassador opens with a big lie i.e. That Iran is not hostile to any state in the world. He should listen to what his President Ahmadinejad says about the United States and about Israel.
The Iranians have been deliberately deceiving the world for over ten years about their nuclear program.
His remark here that he condemns terrorist activity anywhere in the world is outrageous. Iran is the largest supporter of terror of any state in the world. Charlie Rose raises the question of Iran 's supporting the Assad regime. Even more tellingly to an American audience is the question of Iran's having supplied weapons and personnel to forces hostile to Americans in Iraq.
This man lies from the beginning of this interview to its end.
Iran is now a major danger to mankind. And all the lies in the world will not conceal this truth.
Gelles 01/20/2012 04:19 AM Report
Ambassador Khazaee represents a criminal state (whose people fear for their lives because such police-state dictatorships murder people at will who want freedom as we know it.)
Charlie Rose represented freedom-loving people and reasonable American opinion.
The only interest shared by the ambassador (a clever talking snake) and Rose (his host) is avoidance of a nuclear war (likely to destroy Iran and punish other nations).
Americans who see the USA as a basket of snakes and Iran as no worse than we are, are too stupid for words. This is not a debate. It is a war of liberation. When Iran becomes a democracy with an effective bill of individual rights, their ambassadors will be free to act like human beings.
As to nuclear proliferation and the future of defense forces, that is a problem to be addressed by treaties and the commanders in chief responsible for global peace and stability. Iranian officials are not among them. They are targets for our offensive weapons and will remain so until they embrace a believable bill of human rights.
What about Russia, China, Pakistan and North Korea? Do they not create the exception Iran seeks? Yes and no. Yes, until we attack them. No after that. Might makes right at the moment. But to extend WMD rights to all sovereign nations is to invite a quick end to life on earth. This paradox rests on current progress to democratize all nuclear powers and thereafter spread security by treaty not by war.
Arapaport 01/19/2012 08:27 PM Report
When the ambassador said "Iran is not looking for any problems and wants peace with all the nations of the world" why did you not ask about HAMAS and HEZBOLLAH?
Awesome interview, wanted to hear his answer regarding these Two organizations, his country funds, teaches and promotes them.

I am pleased that Charlie continues to speak with leaders and professionals that tell it as it is. When I watched the interview with the Iranian Ambassador, to the US. It is a personal and less tense situation which allows for a person to be seen, other than an enemy. What is said does have to be considered carefully. however I believe that Charlie is able to dialogue with a serious, yet a personal manner. I have collected many new professionals writers and politicians, and the information needed to consider the truth about issues. Thank you Charlie. Elle Rogers

Now comes Part 2
As a point of clarification, one thinks that even if the Iranian military and nuclear capacity are neutralized the Iranians would still have the threat and or capability of disrupting the oil supply from the ME. This would be accomplished by covert or asymmetrical operations. This in affect would disrupt an already fragile world economy that is recovering from the financial crisis of 2008. In other words how does $200 to $400 USD a barrel of oil strike ya, and how does that affect your economy Mr President?
Then beyond the Nuclear weapon capability of Iranian comes the other dirty word of Biological and or Chemical weapons capability of Iran? What exactly does US and Israeli intel have to say about that? These little incidentials should be thought through very carefully as one does not want to make a mistake in judgement here.
tabs 01/19/2012 04:56 PM Report
Mr Rose asks, "Is there any back channel communication between the US and Iran, and would you know who it is?" Why silly, it is you of course Mr Rose. After all Mr Khazaee did say he was there to "officially negotiate" which came as no surprise as one had already thought as much earlier in the interview. Much of the problem between Iran and the US is a misunderstanding by BOTH parties of the true meaning of the rhetoric involved. One thinks that the Iranians keep on telling the US, "See here (waving a piece of paper under Mr Roses nose) the rhetoric by your politicians is inflammatory too." So it becomes a matter of the pot calling the kettle black by BOTH PARTIES.
To move on, the ratcheting up of rhetoric on the Iranians part is the fact that as one heats a plate covered with ants the more quickly the ants scurry about. This is a manifestation of desperation and attending instability on the part of the Iranians. There is an increasing likelihood of a mistake on the Iranians part which could give the US and its Allies the excuse needed to take out the Iranian military and nuclear capacity. On the other hand one hopes that the US is hoping that the current sanctions will bring Iran to heel on its nuclear aspirations. However if the former should take place the blow back in the region would be substantial and create an even bigger mess than the US and Allies already face. The Iranians will not go easily.
As far as the passive agressive stance towards Iran by the current occupant in the WH and the jingoistic paranoia of a number of Republican candidates one does not think that so far these people have or are playing with full decks. But we shall see what Hillary comes up with next? Will she try and start a conversation with Larijani?

Don't know how u find the patience 2 beat your head against the wall trying to snag a "gotcha" moment from this Iranian stooge. Never have I heard someone babble on so much and say, state, or admit anything about anything. Love your show, 'bout as good as TV gets! (other than the aforementioned stooge)

This guy is a member of a bloody and corrupt Islamic/mullah mafia, which does NOT represent the good and innocent people of Iran. This mullah mafia has murdered hundred of thousands of innocent Iranians, has stolen billions of dollars, is by its very nature anti-humanistic and anti-democratic. Con artists and psychpaths make up this mullah mafia. It is also heavily populated by Palestinians and Iraqis who have their own agenda. This mullah mafia must never be allowed to have nukes.
REMant 01/19/2012 11:54 AM Report
OBVIOUSLY, the issue is not the Strait of Hormuz, but the controversy being generated over Iran's nuclear "ambitions," and that because Israel feels either a nuclear balance in that area a threat, or specifically, nuclear weapons in the hands of Shiites, and, in particular, the Iranian regime, is. It appears from an investigation by Mark Perry appearing in Foreign Policy last week http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2012/01/13/false_flag?page=0,0 the US discovered several years ago Mossad was posing as CIA to recruit Sunni extremists from Pakistan to carry out attacks in Iran, suggesting that they may be the source of the current assassinations. It would seem that Israel wants to exploit the Sunni-Shiite schism and likely that they and the US have come down on the Sunni side in any controversy, such as in Bahrain and Syria, and, for a while, in Iraq. The US recently sold a number of aircraft to both Saudi Arabia and Iraq. What the US will do with Iraq if it doesn't accede to its demands tho is certainly problematic. But all the Iranians need to do is mine those shipping lanes in their territory. They don't need to attack anyone. The rest would involve Oman. But none of it is part of the US, and none of it is in international waters. Intimating that Iranian "threats" constitute the raising of "tensions," sounds too much like the posturing between Germany and Poland and the US and Japan prior to the outbreak of WWII. I don't think the US keeps an aircraft carrier there as an air and sea rescue service. This is very poor strategy on this country's part. And I think inviting the representatives of Iran or any country to appear on public television and haranguing them is not only extremely poor diplomacy, but outside its charter. If Charlie wants to get into the act, he should join the foreign service or the military, or go into politics. Insisting on the last word is at least childish, too.
