So what made her THE GREAT?

Sleeping next to a man for some 9 years who never touched her.

Getting the man a circumcision so she could have his child? (did not understand how this worked)

      12 lovers, 9 while married?

      Exploiting serfs?

Being involved with the murder of your husband who was also your earthly ruler appointed by God?

      Great?

In 1780 the Congress ordered Francis Dana, who had been John Adam's secretary in Paris, to Catherine's court, and he took along 14-year-old John Quincy Adams as his secretary. There was little point to it, since she had no intention of recognizing, much less helping us, though she had always been wary of Britain, opposing their encroachments on neutral trade that the revolution relied on and proving very helpful, and had mediated the War of the Bavarian Succession a year earlier. Nevertheless Adams' diary and the correspndence make fascinating reading. Adams would return in 1809 as the first US ambassador.
