This is disgusting! Just when I thought the biased movie making and reporting was over it starts again! Get out a history book...the Serbs were right. Just look at that Croatian moron below. Nobody has anything to say who was not there to watch the wrong captioning on the news, the false newspaper reports...it's endless. Either get on a plane and BE there when things happen or shut up. You have NO right to speak or to any opinion. None.

This situation with the Bosnian War is very real and not made-up or manufactured by Hollywood. Many real people can relate to this and are still suffering from its impact. Yes, it is mainly told from one perspective and that is reasonable considering it is one film which can't reasonably deal with all viewpoints or circumstances in such a complex political situation.
She had commendable objectives with making this movie and has helped this region so much. These victims deserve awareness and aid. It also shines a light on how war crimes use rape as a weapon. This needs to be stopped. Genocide is real and it is needs to be stopped. This was a very gripping and well-executed movie that also has strong performances and an honest script.
These guests and interview were of high quality, calibre, depth, insight, and integrity. This is an important movie and it deserves better reviews. I look forward to more of her daring efforts as a filmmaker. This was a very compelling segment. Thank you Charlie Rose for this interview.
I also appreciate the insight and information we received about Zana and Rade. Zana is a beautiful woman and also very intelligent with a lot of great interests as well. It was great to know more about her as a person. I hope this is a breakout role for her and she gets more work as an actress in Hollywood. Rade is a character actor in so many movies and it was nice to hear from him as a person because he also deserves recognition.
Great interview. I wish more intelligent and conscientious people who weren't corrupted would open their minds, hearts, and souls to this movie & to these people who are worthy of respect.

Cultural diversity and tolerance is very important for the sake of America and Jolie should be held in high esteem for that agenda.

I knew the flamers would pounce and use any sort of spin to wrongly denounce her & her great work. The basis of this constant backlash and persecution comes from a false perspective based on misportrayals that resulted from a false accusation that came from tabloid gossip that went out of control. Her actual romance with Brad began several months after his separation was announced and didn't play out the way the media or his opportunistic ex-wife painted it. She doesn't deserve this and has worked so hard to reform herself. She has suffered through so much pain and abuse in her life. I respected her so much for her genuine devotion to humanity, ethics, and improving society.
Angelina is a real humanitarian and I have investigated her work & causes. She came across as real, sincere, and insightful in this interview. I am very proud of her for daring to take on such a powerful, controversial, difficult, and politically sensitive subject. It is a shame that she and Pitt have to overcome a bias when it comes to their quality movies. In the Land of Blood & Honey deserves critical acclaim and deserves a higher rating with the journalists.
As for the petty criticism, she is thin because she has to deal with stress, traveling, motherhood to a large family, tons of projects, and people belitting her in a fanatical fashion everyday. She is object of constant media slander and persecution with most of the public brainwashed into hating her over many toxic misconceptions.
She is not also unfairly taking credit for anything. She has mentioned her staff in other interviews and it was well-known they have a staff which also had to deal with exaggerated and inaccurate reports. The majority of celebrities have assistants, agents, housekeepers, nannies, publicists, and etc. They don't have to deal with this criticism like the Jolie-Pitts who do have special circumstances where they need that staff for their various duties and security guards for safety because the press tends to be out of control. There also alot of misconceptions with their nannies which function as baby-sitters when they are not around or on-set. Brad and Angelina actually are the primary caretakers of their children and do a lot of their work but they can't do all of it and maintain their lifestyle. It is bascially a double-standard for them and all of the other celebs who don't have to deal with this judgement. Don't resent people who have that luxury especially when they are giving back to the community as much as they can.
The movie doesn't use any archetypes. It is a humanistic portrait focused on the emotional and political plight of two people. She cannot tell the story of every victim of Yugoslavia or Bosnia. There will be different sides and in this circumstance the victim was Bosnian Muslim. Muslims tend to be wrongly villified in cinema so it is nice to finally see a true depiction of how some Muslims are persecuted. Muslims also do make the majority in that region so get your facts straight. The film is more about humanity struggle's rather any political statement. She cannot favor every side or make everybody look good. In a different story, there would be different religious & racial victims & persecutors. Just like in one version, the Native Americans would be the victims and in others, some might tell the story from the settler's point of view.
I commend Jolie for her brave attempt into filmmaking and all of the work she has done. It is a shame that people took so little from her interview as well as the interview & messages from Rade & Zana to engage in petty-flaming she doesn't deserve. I encourage everybody to support the movie.
It is not easy to watch but there so many aspects to respect
and her agenda was a humanitarian one to bring more
awareness to that situation.

The "sublime" CMAR and Jolie, Charlie has really taken a nose dive on the guest quality.

Most analysts agree that all sides committed atrocities. On the rare occasions we see Bosnian fighters in “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” they come off as a likable ragtag band, while the better-armed and better-organized Serb forces are presented as preening and sadistic fascists, continually drunk and singing nationalistic songs.
When you show bloody civil war from only one side, than it is wine sided.
Muslims and killing Serbs and Croats in the areas where they where majority, Croats whet killing Serbs and Muslims in the are where they where Majority(not to many in Bosnia), and Serbs where doing the same.
Population was about 45% Muslim, 40% Serbian and 15% Croat. Each Side had their share of atrocities!
She’s playing favorites, and drawing on cinematic and historical archetypes.
I wish to correct what I observed, especially the I will leave the artistic side to those who are more qualified. Sex, violence, distortion of historic facts and fabrication appear alive and well in Hollywood as cinematic tricks are used to distract and “entertain” us. This film stinks the same way as "Behind the enemy lines".

Hey, machinegun! Stop Talking about Brad Pitt's 'Most Beautiful Woman in the World'-Wife like that! Or he'll sick his butt-boy, 'CMAR' on yeh.
Who, also, btw, happens to be him (brad pitt), because he's an actor (a really Good one) he can do that with consummate skill. He also works real hard.

Man, She is soooo skinny. I honestly think she is totally 'Annie." Man, she would be really beautiful if she gained a few pounds. But as time goes on it is becoming more and more obvious that she has an eating disorder. It's a two-way road I feel she has herself to blame, but also society implores women to look like this...sad. Whatever happened to Marilyn Monroe type women?
CMAR 12/23/2011 04:11 PM Report
Hey Sharks........you seem to be too invested in the woman's personal life. Have none of your own? Watch too much soap opera, do ya? You can 'have it all" if you get off your lazy asss and work harder. I bet you could eat less, too. You complainers about other people's high achievement are usually fat lazy suckers.

Thank you Charlie for bringing Angelina Jolie to your table with the wonderful actors who together have been able to paint such a vivid picture of that horrible experience. As I watched Ms. Jolie struggle to communicate how important and urgently relevant the lessons of the film are, I found myself thinking about that old Rolling Stones song, Gimme Shelter. War is just a shot away. Having grown up in the deep South, I was never allowed to forget how tenous our hold on peace and civilization is. It's just a shot away. That's what the people of the Balkins were painfully reminded of at the close of the 20th century. It's what we should have learned from September 11th. And it's what people around the globe experience every day. It's war. And it's just a shot away.
SharkswithfrikingLazers 12/23/2011 03:18 PM Report
Yes Charlie, how does she do it all.
She told you about her partner Brad and how they both share duties.
My follow-up question would have been, "then you have no staff?"
If you watch the documentary on Joan Rivers ("A Piece of Work") you will see it takes her a crew to function. She even talks about all the checks she signs and how Joan Rivers is not a person but a company.
For Angelina I would bet it is not only Brad but a small village of support including nannies, publicists, financial managers, personal assistants, travel agents, maids, cooks, pool boys, gardeners . . . .
Angelina is just one face of many, many faces.
This is unfair of her to paint this picture of a two person crew. It is especially unfair to those who cut their own lawn, scrub their own toilet and do their own chores.
Yes, you can have it all--if you staff up.

Thank you for airing this. My love affair with Yugoslavia started in 1959 when I stopped there with my husband on a business trip. When I got back to the US I read "Black Lamb and Gray Falcon", "The Bridge on the Drina" and I was totally hooked.
We made a date with Serge Cianovic from The Architects Colaborative to go together to Serbia and Croatia, but he suddenly died.
Yugoslavia was in the middle of its horror and Richard Holbrooke was making his great attempt. What Angelina Jolie said was true, and at the time, nobody was listening or gave a damn. Even though it is so many years too late, I am glad, via art, that more people will be made aware of that tragic history.
What do we do to ourselves? Why are we Jew and Palestinian, Serb and Croat?
Thank you for your programs- they are inspiring and , I feel, straight from your heart.
