The two major partys represent our two most prominent options to meet the "great economic contraction" we have allowed to lay us low:
..... (1) Austerity -- represented by Perry, Bachman and Paul, and
..... (2) Much Greater Stimulus -- represented by Obama and Huntsman (who offers this sensible option to Republicans -- with the latter rejecting it outright).
Option three, (or 2.5 -- if you prefer,) DEBT-FREE QUANTITATIVE EASING to put the stimulus on steriods is the option promoted by money cranks like myself and a few thousand others -- mostly in Canada, Australia, UK, the Univ. of Missouri, Kansas City, the New School, Bard University, and hopefully, the Charlie Rose Show -- If I can persuade all of you to join our wiki-net. Our option to turn the current chaos of the Great Contraction into a millenial opportunity to rescue the human race from possible self-imposed oblivion, involves only two documents for YOU to master: the SECOND BILL OF RIGHTS and KEYNES WITHOUT DEBT. Both are prominent on

Charlie Rose at the end of the video tips his hand and shows how good he really is (contrary to my jbes at him for being imperfect) by wistfully asking after Jon Huntsman.
..... ..... Jon said he served Barack Obama because all of us would serve our nation if asked by the president in office [who did not flinch from making every effort to stop pirates and Osama bin Ladin.]
(My better half seems to be on the mend after a fall -- she's 81 and fighting off severe memory impairment as a brave lady who has been married to me for 43 years. She was a widow when we married, having lost a great husband when she was only 33. These has been our hardest weeks in 43 years. This is extraneous to "austerity versus stimlulus", and private lives are out of bounds to these discussions to some degree, but austerity was not the hallmark of the Republican Ronald Reagan, whose spending contributed to the freedom on Earth we all enjoy. Reagan and I voted for FDR. And the cure for Reagan's last health need wants stimulus spending not austerity stinginess. My family and some of yours also wants that cure. It may not come tomorrow. But Doctor Ron Paul does not want the cure if it takes government money. He is a dman fool. And if you love him you can have him.
1."After the gold standard fell in 1971, Ron Paul expressed his belief that 'After that day, all money would be political money rather than money of real value'."

Thank you, yaakalot, ..I just looked Ron up on wikipedia and I was impressed.
"Medical surgeon in Vietnam" does explain his particular revulsion to war (..we all agree.)
Best part of his story???:
_______
"As a member of Congress, he continues to refuse to sign up for the government pension that he would be entitled to, in order to avoid receiving government money, saying it would be 'hypocritical and immoral'."
_______
(..Just like George Washington!!!!)
Okay, ..now I trust him!!!
***
But the wiki story goes on!!!:
______
"After the gold standard fell in 1971, Ron Paul expressed his belief that 'After that day, all money would be political money rather than money of real value'."
_____
Yes!!! ..So Ron Paul doesn't want to "print more money" for Washington politicians to spend? (..like Charley Rose, Warren Buffett, and Barack Obama hope they can!!)
Now THAT is a man both honest and intelligent!!
***
Okay Yak, ..if you can get him to the finals, I will be happy to vote for him!
(..Maybe you should get him a nice pair of boots???)

"Did Ron Paul go to college???"
Ron Paul graduated from Duke (in 1961 I believe)
Gettysburg College (B.S.)
Duke University (M.D.)

Hah! ..Frank thinks "the media is biased!"
Let's see, ..Ron Paul, ..he's from Texas, right? ..he grimaces a lot.
Does he smoke pot like those 'Willie Nelson' libertarians??
Why does he think we should never defend ourselves overseas?
I like it when he says, .."We're in a pile of crap, and we deserve it!!"
Is there anything more?
***
And he's short!
Now, John McCain was just WAY too white, ..and Ron Paul is just too short!
Barack Obama is like 6'4" or something, ..looks cool smoking a cigarette, ..and he went to HARVARD!!!!
Did Ron Paul go to college??? ..before or after WWII??
***
You've just got to face the music, Frank, ..
..life isn't fair, ..or smart, sometimes.
But hey, Ron Paul already knows that.

Ron Paul mentioned just once and to say that he had a C- performance at the debate? According to Fox News I guess Americans think different and in a big way:

What a joke, how can you a guy who comes in second at the Ames Poll these guys are trying to discuss be written off so easily and then we only suck off Santorum as the one that was a big surprise. Jon Stewart nailed this media bias that is becoming blatantly obviously:

Thank you, Ellen, ..I googled exactly what you suggested and I found a link!!
Tomorrow I will finish one of my fence jobs, go to Staples to upgrade my RAM, and then watch it to see what they said!!!
..and you are so enlightened to be a person who "evaluates the evaluators"!!! ..that's nice!
Thanks again! ..I'll read you again tomorrow!
Ellen_Dibble 08/16/2011 01:18 AM Report
Neil, try googling something like "Iowa debate live video" at the time you expect the debate, and you'll probably find a couple of choices. I found a Republican debate in New Hampshire not too long ago; I forget exactly. I'm glad I found it, because I could evaluate the evaluators who didn't think most of us would have seen it, but one was enough for a while.
doodah 08/15/2011 09:23 PM Report
So glad the gentleman cleared that up for me. "...the Straw Poll is Not a vote for the winners but instead it elects the Losers". Seems kind of counter intuitive, But What a Relief.
Being underemployed offers so many teachable moments.
So when will Bachman and Paul shut the hell up?. And let the Only serious Republican candidate, 'Buddy Roemer' BE HEARD!
He was on C-Span today. God bless C-Span; they show Real Class.
NeilMacCallister 08/15/2011 08:33 PM Report
Actually rtb, ..I thought all speakers here represented themselves well, Halperin included.
But who wasn't included??? ..Where was Cain in this discussion?? ..Has he dropped out???
I didn't get to see the debate on TV because the government mandated-away my TV's rabbit-ears, ..and now I only get 'Judge Judy' and 'Cheaters' offered.
***
The Texas governor's mom made him his clothes? ..like mine did?? ..like Tom Joad's mother did??? ..I like that!
I have stood in Texas on a hot day, ..and if you can work hard there, ..you can work hard anywhere!
Maybe as hard as Herman Cain???
***
Say, ..could we actually get Perry, or Cain, or Bachmann, or Romney to actually contribute to the coffee-klatsch here at the Charlie Rose Program???
These "reporters" of information are fine for what they do, ..but maybe we should hear these candidates' commitments to America's future in their own voice?
Would our President allow that???
rtb 08/15/2011 06:10 PM Report
Halperin is a stain on this fine show, his comments are devalued and Charlie's loyalty to him is misplaced.
ShalomFreedman 08/15/2011 04:03 PM Report
This was a truly interesting and informative discussion. The bottom line I read out of it is that the Texas Governor is most likely going to be the Republican Presidential Candidate though he will be less likely to defeat President Obama than would Governor Romney.
