doodah?? ..here's my note to you:

      _________

"The odds of another recession have climbed during the past six months, according to five of nine economists on the Business Cycle Dating Committee of the National Bureau of Economic Research, an academic panel that dates recessions.

"Bank of America’s bond-insurance prices last week surged to a rate of $342,040 a year for coverage on $10 million of debt, above where Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. (LEHMQ)’s bond insurance was priced at the start of the week before the firm collapsed."

83 comments??? ..that's who strong is the desire to save America, winter.

But you go ahead and milk your government teat until she is dry.

Then it is every man for themself.

    5. winter  08/22/2011 06:42 PM Report

83 comments here. That reveals how Will stays in the headlines ala Gingrich and sells more books. Alot of conservatives milking that cow. It pays so much better on the right cheerleading for Americas oligarch gangsters. Ha.

Think Will or Palin need side jobs?

"Tea for Two, and Me for You, You for Me, and Tea for Two..."- George Will-It-Twill,Aug.21,2011, dancing with Gaddafi in his bunker.

Poor George Will and the Tea Party losing another ally in the fight against Progressives ("What's Wrong with People?! Didn't they get the Memo?!"-George Will-It-Twill, his every night daily prayer just before beddy-by time)

    7. doodah  08/21/2011 04:56 PM Report

Red Alert! Red Alert! The bells and whistles and flashing lights in NeilMacCallister's mind from many hours of research is a NuclearMeltDown

"...The Tea Party now known as 'NeilMacCallister and the Nuclear MeltDowns' - Ed Sullivan

    8. doodah  08/21/2011 04:50 PM Report

LOL Neil! Let me guess, you manage a Nuclear-Power Plant and all those "responsible citizens" are your subordinates; So everyday at work is just a big good ole Tea Party (for Neil). If that's your excuse, then you're pardoned. If not?, "Then Don't Stop Me!" "bleh bleh"

    9. NeilMacCallister  08/21/2011 12:17 PM Report

And then there's doodah, ..busily feasting off the dying body of America, ..who turns his dripping fangs up to curse: "NOOO!!!!! ..Don't Stop Me!!!"

    10. NeilMacCallister  08/21/2011 12:06 PM Report

Many American citizens have kept their eyes on America's tax rates, government-regulated costs of production, and the payroll costs of hiring that government; and have noticed all those forced spendings to be rising higher than other nations' corresponding levels of forced taxing and spendings.

Those citizens started to witness many of our economic engine's monitoring-gauges wander uncontrolled above their red danger-line levels, and saw and heard the warning-lights and safety-sirens start to blink and blare. They watched as our job production line clunkered to a halt, as homes were abandoned out of family poverties, and as our credit worthiness as a nation was downgraded.

Those responsible citizens say "No" to our government enlarging itself yet more, and then demanding yet more money from America's working people. Those Americans say we are "Taxed Enough Already" as a nation, and ask only that our government hires just finish their constituted jobs within the budgets we agreed to.

Those responsible people are now called 'The Tea Party', ..and they call upon our government hires to complete their defined jobs on-budget and on-time, ..just like the rest of us must do.

    11. doodah  08/20/2011 05:27 AM Report

"Where are all the good building plans that we need to build value into our modern village???"

As I mentioned before, 'Buddy Roemer' is the man with The Plan. First, nip the plutocracy in the bud, and do that by leading by example, separate the politician from the INFLUENCE of pure money, he's doing that with himself, he'll Make the rest of them do the same thing. Give the Banking Lobby the cold shoulder and restore confidence and Trust to the financial system and build from there.

It's a Simple Solution. Why hasn't Anybody else in the tea party suggested it? I suspect, it's because they ENJOY Things the way they are, while also continuing to bitch. They Are ALL FAKES, PHONIES, AND FRAUDS. They'll make the economy even worse, but they'll be happy because the money will still be pumping into their pockets while assets keep falling for them to steal later. The Tea Party, Except Roemer, is a bunch of Assholes.

    12. NeilMacCallister  08/19/2011 07:54 AM Report

Oops! ..Sorry Sidney!! (..you did build a fine chapel!)

    13. NeilMacCallister  08/19/2011 07:42 AM Report

Sure doodah, I get delirious sometimes. Like when Sydney Poitier thought he could build that chapel all by himself in The Lilies of the Field. He found out that he made much better progress after he accepted the help of the many people around him.

But after accepting the eager and skilled helpers, ..he found that he then needed a well-drawn and well-communicated building plan!

Teamwork is good! ..A detailed plan is good! ..And building is good!

      ***

I saw a painting by Thomas Chambers (The Hudson Valley, Sunset) used on a Colonial American Travel Narrative. The painter looks down a wooded slope, across the River, over a small colonial town beside a mountain, and up into a large amber-colored evening sky.

Your eye catches a church steeple near the center of the village. It is 80' tall, ornately trimmed with wood-carved mini-spires at each rising level, and then painted shiny and bright for all the world to see!

I'll bet a Native-American looking down across that river and seeing that towering steeple was also quite impressed!

      ***

What are we building today except for people's retirements???

Where are all the good building plans that we need to build value into our modern village???

Neil, you keep reaching New Lows. How low can you go? Bro

    20. NeilMacCallister  08/17/2011 09:51 PM Report

Richard_DeBiase, the "Progressive", has deemed here to offer us the answer that America's democracy needs, .."even if most Americans don't realize it!"

(..He is about as progressive as Idi Amin.)

He then expresses the fact that "Regulating private activities is the ultimate in intrusive government" ,,

,,but you know what? ..he sure sounds like he will be voting for Barack Obama! ..a man responsible for more regulations of private activity than any president since the invention of the printing press!!!

      ***

Good luck, Richard, ..take your time, ..it is a long and difficult road!

    21. Richard_DeBiase  08/17/2011 02:45 PM Report

George Will on Charlie Rose 8/9/2011.

      Two quick comments.

      Comment 1:

The Progressive Movement was spawned by the Robber Baron capitalism of the Industrial Revolution, which created shoddy products, sweatshops, government corruption and massive income inequality. Massive income inequality led to the French Revolution, the Russian Revolution, and is the root cause of Americans' dissatisfaction with their government today (even if most Americans don't realize that income disparity is the problem).

The economy is locked up, not because business fears the government, but because the consumer fears being defrauded again by business. I would refinance my house, except that the banking industry has been engaged in wholesale fraud for the last 10 years. And the reason there are so many toxic assets is, because mortgage loan originators defrauded Wall Street banks and a wide range of other investors. The purpose of regulation is to create consumer confidence.

George Will presented the false choice, which is smarter the free market or Congress, and Charlie Rose fell for it. That's like asking who is smarter ballplayers or referees; both are necessary to play the game. In this case, private enterprise represents the ballplayers and government represents the referees.

I do not think the public will ultimately buy the idea that we need to protect the New Robber Barons, no matter how much the right-wing tries to sell it. And George Will's philosophy is hopelessly stuck in 1964.

      Comment 2:

How can Rick Perry, George Will or anyone else reconcile the small-government conservatives (libertarians) with the social conservatives (Religious Right)? These two groups are exact opposites. Regulating social activities, private activities or culture seems like the ultimate in intrusive government to me.

    22. PokerCat  08/17/2011 10:02 AM Report

      Sigh.

I rarely bother to post a comment given the predictable left wing hate fest ...

... but, just in case you (CR) have an intern trolling the comments, ...

... Charlies, please, will you just shut up an let a Conservative (real Conservative, not a faux-Con like Brooks) answer your questions.

Seriously, cut back on the coffee or something, but Charlie, you must have hogged liek 70% of the time just dabbling on about how much you disagreed, or arguing with GW, instead of GW being able to answer your questions.

I would have to go back and count, but there was not a single question that he answered with more than a single word that you did not interrupt.

      Just rude. Or narcissistic.

    23. mikey  08/16/2011 02:13 PM Report

Great to have an interview with someone who has actually read and understands the constitution. Charlie tried but couldn't lay a glove on Mr. Will. I admire him however for allowing a conservative on his show, realizing how angrily the progressives will become when confronted with the truth.

    24. NeilMacCallister  08/16/2011 12:48 PM Report

I apologize for taking the Lord's name in vain. My anger does not excuse. I was wrong.

Go ahead, ..cry about your budget cuts!!!!

    26. MetroMD  08/15/2011 09:25 PM Report

Without a doubt the worst hour of Charlie Rose in recent memory. Georgie rehashes very single failed conservative theory, plays selective memory games, rewrites history all to be consistent with his delusional world view. Thank God this silly little man has never had any significant responsibility put to him in this life except to preach perverted conservative dogma to the blind, tea-bagging faithful. Charlie did his best to counter the many obvious and ridiculous falsehoods and you can almost see the bewilderment in Charlie's face when he realized that no amount of facts would get in the way of this fools talking points. Charlie please don't give your entire hour to the right wing megaphone again - what's next an hour with Rush and Beck?

      The Democrats have a victory!!

Wrapped in the sheep-skin of "TelltheTruth", ACORN Democracy has snuck in and shut-down conversations and debate.

Sharkie switched to a different channel, and Ellen has gone outside to lay down in the shade.

...The entrenched and watching Obamites now see their chance!

    28. Ellen_Dibble  08/14/2011 12:52 PM Report

Supposedly there was a Charlie Rose show on Friday about the Republican debate with Matthew Dowd, Mark Halperin, and another, plus Gloria Steinem. Nobody has posted it so we can't comment; actually we can't even access it. August fundraising pushed it out the door. I thought Bloomberg TV might post a link to the actual broadcast, but no such luck. Meanwhile, I like TelltheTruth seem to have a version of summer flu, a raging headache and uncountable dysfunctions, all of which seem to connect to America and Americans doing the 21st Century Rock, which is a suicidal dance. It doesn't seem to matter how incisively questions are put or well-informedly they are countered. I think I'll go bury my head in cold sand like an ostrich. I'm wondering where Pawlenty is going to, too polite to want to really fight, in this particular arena, practically forced to stand back and let it happen. Headache notwithstanding, I do think business is going to pull us out of this, slowly, in spite of dysfunctional government and American joy in misdirection.

    29. SharkswithfrikingLazers  08/14/2011 03:34 AM Report

George says the left wants to control the commanding heights of the economy.

Here is the story of how the new global economy was born, the story of a century-long battle of ideas to determine who would control the "commanding heights" of the economy -- central governments or free markets.

      http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/commandingheights/shared/minitext/tr_show03.html

    30. doodah  08/13/2011 08:38 PM Report

      I agree Wholeheartedly

    31. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 07:11 PM Report

I will say this for Will, he has great hair for a 70 year old.

Hell, his political positions are as fake and shifting as his hair piece.

    32. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 07:03 PM Report

George Will believes it is the government's business to deliver the mail?

      What!!??

And by the way, under the GI bill and most military programs you don't have to put 20% down to buy a house.

    33. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 07:01 PM Report

Will rails against social security. He's never worked a day in his life. He's just posted longer thoughts than most people here.

Tell the people who have broken their backs in coal mines and factories that they should retire at 78. Tell teachers, police officers and fireman that they should still be doing their jobs into their 70s.

      Will is incredibly insufferable.

    34. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 06:54 PM Report

      Hah!

      Way to go, Charlie.

Will tries to defend Reagan's military budget.

When Carter left office, the national debt as a percentage of GDP was about 32.5%. When Reagan left office it was 53.1%.

Remember: by Will's own admission, Reagan faced NO NATIONAL CRISIS!

In Obama's first year, the national debt as a percentage of GDP has increased 9 percentage points - but that IS after a national crisis in the financial markets. By the time Obama leaves office he will have curtailed that.

Point again is, Reagan increased the national debt by 20 percentage points. Fiscally responsible my arse.

    35. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 06:47 PM Report

George Will, the man who use to claim that Reagan saved the country, now admits that Reagan isn't in the first tier of presidents because he never faced a crisis.

      Hallelujah!

A breakthrough. At least until someone brings this post to his attention and he realizes he said what he thinks. He'll never say that again.

Stick to the script, George. Reagan saved us after Carter and liberalism, remember?

    36. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 06:33 PM Report

      This guy makes me sick.

"At the urging of government," the private sector decided to mismanage the housing market.

But in 1937 and '38 and TODAY, capital has "stopped" moving.

In other words, when the people with capital want, they can stop spending and creating wealth. But when they want, they can also create wealth.

How can this guy get away with his double-speak?

I'm not an expert like Charlie Rose and I'm catching him left and right - literally.

    37. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 06:28 PM Report

Either George Will is unaware of what is happening in the courts and what will ultimately be decided in the Supreme Court regarding health care reform or he is just lying.

Health care reform will be defeated in the Supreme Court by that third branch of government controlled by the Republican conservative movement.

So any discussion about health care is meaningless except to use as a tool with which to beat Obama over the head.

    38. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 06:22 PM Report

The Tea Party said "early, in 2009" that something was wrong with America.

      Laughable.

Where were these guys in 2008 when the financial markets were crashing and GW was bailing out Wall Street?

Where were they when GW was handing out prescriptions without a way to pay for them as if he were handing out free candy to children?

    39. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 06:20 PM Report

Regarding TARP, Will was for the federal government buying the toxic assets of bankers, he just didn't want the Obama administration to save the jobs of the UAW.

      Good to know.

    40. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 06:07 PM Report

It's great how Will spews the Republican message: "Obama moved the goal posts."

      Seriously?

Will constantly refers to the PROCESS of government.

Any businessman out there will tell you that during the PROCESS of a negotiation a deal will change colors often.

So during the PROCESS of this negotiation Obama shifts his position and suddenly the Republican businessman Boehner walks away?

Seriously? He could have easily have said, "HELL, NO." and continued with the negotiation. Or he could have demanded more from Obama.

To walk away from the grand bargain on the basis that during the negotiations the president "moved the goal posts" is a complete fabrication and hopefully the next time Charlie Rose has Boehner in the hot seat he will press him on this - but hopefully not to the point of tears. I hate to see a grown man cry.

    41. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 06:02 PM Report

"Republicans control one-half of one branch of the government."

      - George Will

      YOU LIE!

Is Will not familiar with the Supreme Court? And he KNOWS it is 5-4 conservative/Republican.

He cannot be serious with that comment.

    42. TelltheTruth  08/13/2011 05:53 PM Report

IN his own insufferable way, George Will notes that unemployment under Obama has been over 9% for 24 months.

What he doesn't acknowledge was that Obama was handed the keys as the car was in mid-air flying over the cliff.

A FULL YEAR into Ronald Reagan's presidency, unemployment rose to over 9% and stayed there for 19 months.

Republicans will tell you it was Carter's fault. Or the Democratic Congress with whom Reagan had to negotiate. But when Obama blames GW they cry foul.

And by the way, when it came to "Morning In America," the Republicans offer no credit to the Democratic Congress that helped get us there.

And by the way, the national debt as a percentage of GDP was about 32.5% when Carter left office. When Reagan left office it was 53.1%.

"Morning In America" didn't come cheap.

I only wish Charlie Rose would have reminded Will of these facts. Will likes to throw around some of the facts. But like any bully, he needs to be confronted with all of the facts.

    43. NeilMacCallister  08/13/2011 03:26 PM Report

There's no blood here, Ellen (..just mayhem's tears.)

The real question is: "What do you want our next-elected President to do?"

      ***

..or maybe your concern is what the ELECTORATE is found to be doing!

What is more important? ..what any President decides to do? ..or what the electorate learns and then does?

Our Declaration of Independence, and our U.S. Constitution, wants the electorate to lead our nation!!!

Just as Thomas Jefferson hoped, ..and James Madison feared!

      ***

Yes, Thomas Jefferson wanted a small government!!!

"Power to the Fed!!" is NOT a 'progressive' idea, ..it is the same as that Old-World "Power to the King!!"

The first step toward "Power to the People", ..is power to the states.

The first step toward power to the states, is Federal Term Limits.

(..Once a Senator sits in that wood-paneled Washington D.C. office for 12 years, he or she becomes a representative for the marble-floored Washington D.C. lifestyle, not the bankrupted state which elected them.)

I would really like our next President to support 'We the People', ..by supporting Federal Term Limits.

I can't speak for Charlie, Miss Ellen, but That's what I try to do. Wah ha ha

    45. Ellen_Dibble  08/12/2011 01:42 PM Report

Do you think Charlie Rose is trying to rewire the brains/philosophies of his guests? Do you think his round table is a sort of meat-grinder for interrogation? Do you think he is trying to persuade everyone on the right of the wrongheadedness of their thinking? Or everyone on the left of the wrongheadedness of their thinking? And the objective is to have everyone exiting the room transformed to a standard size? And if he fails, well, then hand it to the discussion boards, and be sure there is a set time so we can all make mincemeat of the theories of (a) the guests, (b) the host, Charlie, and (c) each other. Then anyone left standing can go ahead and vote.

Obama's LEADERSHIP: The CAPACITY to pay our bills ! (2)

Drew's criticism is the same as mine: "Let's bail out the banks. But let's recover the means to employ all who have lost their jobs, and to rescue the home owners and ordinary people whose retirement 401's have been radically under valued."

Such recovery and rescue, especially of jobs, is well within the CAPACITY of America (and every affected nation). It is NOT within their current MONEY-power.

Drew in the NY Sunday Times, Johnathan in the New Republic, Fareed in Time Magazine and GPS on CNN, and Charlie over Bloomberg and PBS, all echo ACCEPTANCE of MONEY as it was defined for the New Deal -- and its ultimate failure to invoke Keynesian tools before WW II more fully defined their effectiveness.

The key to Keynesian MONEY is CAPACITY to PRODUCE quality economic output to support the economic DEMAND on which SUPPLIER PROFIT depends.

Such capacity cannot be merely soft theory or rhetoric. It must be Henry Kaiser-like profound talent to deliver the necessary goods.

Exactly how much currency and deposits can we profitably inject into a capitalist economy via debt-free systems like

quantitative easing, Morrison's Keynes without debt, Douglas' social credit, Lincoln's green-backs, Benjamin Franklin's money, etc.? How much? As much as we have unused CAPACITY of capital, labor, automated and robotic potentials, all combined, to outproduce the scarcity that inhibits achievement of a GREEN heaven on earth.

All of the above is called "money-crankism". The President is afraid to join Franklin, Washington, Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt and Richard Nixon, who were willing to save America, with money approved by Keynes.

Obama prefers the company of Herber Hoover and all our current crop of economists, politicians and talk shows, who are digging our grave with all the enthusiasm their ignorance affords.

Charlie Rose is the most guilty of all. If he asked his staff to bring to America voices from the debt-free money crowd in America, UK, and Canada, -- especially Mathew Forstater who understands functional finance and can be found at the Univ. of Missouri Kansas City and Bard Univ. Levy Institute.

It is true that the whole debt-free money crowd are dis-united. And it is also true that stimulus spending and borrowing, as discussed on Charlie Rose Shows, is equivalent to functional finance combined with quantitative easing as Obama and Bernanke have been doing.

So let me end with a huge thank you to Charlie for trying and a huge punch in the nose for failing. He has given Herbert Hoover his due. Where is his embrace of FDR's Second Bill of Rights financed by Keynes Without Debt (by Morrison) as he can read with the help of Google or at

      Charlie,

I was disappointed in your soft-pedaled interview with George Will. You allowed him to deify James Madison unchallenged. James Madison did make significant contributions to the construct of our country. However, his sophomoric understanding of finance and economy, both

personal and professional did great disservice to our country.

His objection to the progressive idea of a central bank, directly led to 7 years of depression. Furthermore the lack financial oversight, allowed the private sector and states to issue hundreds of forms of paper money. The effects of which kept our country from financially maturing until well into the mid 1800's.

When Mr. Will returns, please be prepared.

The Ghost of Jefferson should pay a visit in the dreams of conservatives and whisper into their ears, "...that thing about coporations being people, I've been watching, what are you nuts!"
