This was an especially enjoyable and in a way moving interview. Arnold Palmer appears to be such a fine person, such a considerate human being. He seems to be one who did not let his great and even legendary success ruin his character. His modesty was apparent throughout and especially in his acknowledging that his great rival Jack Nicklaus was in fact the greatest golfer of all. His words about Tiger Woods possibly coming back were wise and discreet. Charlie Rose took the high road in this interview as he often does. Sometimes it is possible to resent this when he lets various jerks get away with lies and stupidities. Here however the high road was the right road. Golf is a game I played little and not well and always felt belonged to the country - club people I once very badly caddied for. My Uncle Jack Zeibert loved the game , followed it and played it with a passion. It gave him a tremendous amount of pleasure. Arnold Palmer's words about Golf being the greatest game would certainly be approved of by him. But when I heard the words I thought of Babe Ruth's famous farewell when he spoke about Baseball being " the only real game in the world". Each to the thing which he loves.

Again an outstanding interview with a great champion who gave so many so much in what he did so well.

Addendum: His three years in the Coast Guard were much like mine in the Navy. Mine were the three years before I turned 21. His were at a slightly older age. He was at the time a successful golfer. I was in my mind sucessful enough to remember those years fondly -- although comparison with Palmer is otherwise rediculous.

Arnold Palmer is the one in a million winner we all would like to be. (Maybe million is too low a denominator).

When I was very young, it was swimming. I had started at about 2, and by the time I was 7, I dreamt about winning Olympic gold. I never thereafter proved to be better than about one in ten.

In adult life I have loved tennis and swimming above all other sports. In tennis I was always a middle of the pack player. But I was addicted to play -- and still try to play almost every day.

I am 4 years older than Arnold Palmer. I never liked golf --never played it. My grandson John is very very good at it.

This conversation was a winner. Arnold Palmer is a brilliant conversationalist. Charlie Rose is an obvious fan of the man.

I imagine it will not be possible, but hours of talk with AP on business would probably be better than the same with most professors of business -- because AP is a naturally gifted communicator. He thinks as fast as he must to keep what he says exactly right all the time.

Of course his love for his father and his neat organization of so much memorabilia were highlights for me -- as well as the good sense he has at the tip of his tongue.

Not a sports fan, but enjoyed the hour.

Thanks Charlie for this gift of your conversation with a living legend.

Golf is a very expensive sport both in time and money. So it has been decades since I have been on the links.

Having said that, your caption should be "an hour with Arnold Palmer who happens to be a professional golfer". I think he stands on his own with or without the "professional golfer" before his name. This is why you gave him the entire hour.

Arnie is living proof that parental selection is paramount.
