I loved this interview. To hear an artist talk about his work, the process, himself was entertaining and informative. How different is the mind of an artist. Marden is so cool and Charlie is so great at the Art of the interview. I've seen this interview about four or five times.

How great of Charlie not to interfere with Marden's long pauses. Charlie really drew the most out of this artist and how enjoyable it was. Thanks Charlie.

There is a japanese calligrapher that has a storefront studio by me that does more compelling work than Marden. Don't believe the HYPE!! This is more about museums giving shows to artists they own to jack up the paintings worth. Oh and Don't forget about the contributors to museums that are super wealthy and want to sell Mardens at auction. A museum show increases a paintings value by leaps and leaps and bounds. It's alot of smoke and mirrors and the general public has no idea how the inner workings of museums operate in this way. It shouldn't really surprise anyone. It's just business. BIG business. Just don't be a sheep to the artists hype slaughter.

Great interview, inspiring, and insightful. Marden is a thoughtful man, who makes quiet, contemplative paintings. They encourage one to slow down and to look at something beautiful. That's not easy for many in this day and age.

It's funny to watch this and contrast it with the Schnabel interview Rose has done. Brice Marden is an artist, Schnabel an entertainer.

Charlie Rose seems to get the most interesting interviews. I love the interview with Brice Marden, especially in how an artist thinks. Brice gives so much of his artistic process in this interview. Love it.

'with a whimper, not a thud'...very acute. i definitely think marden's got chops and has some amazing work, but the new work is rehashed fluff, and crayola does better. mary heilmann is waxing him. this show was a masoleum.

and jay......i'm at USf....we wax lakeland and florida southern 8 days a week............

Are Marden's lines really calligraphic, or are they actually just carefully painted replicas of gestures?

    8. Angela  10/27/2007 10:34 PM Report

Cool. I definitely buy into his philosophy about art.

I have never seen an artist talk for so long and say so little. The art world needs him because they can gently tell the masses " Here eat this.. it's good for you" But the reason he has so little to say is alas the emperor still has no clothes and the work ultimately falls to MOMA's shiny new floors not with a thud but a whimper...

This is simply Charlie Rose at his best. It was an hour interview that was nothing less than magical. Thank you Charlie.

p.s. phi alpha to Marden's Florida Southern College connection. It is a gem of school in Lakeland Florida.

This is one of my favorite Charlie Rose interviews. The easy pace and uninterrupted pauses make room for the artistic revelations of Brice Marden.

Interesting interview. I am always interested when artists talk about their process and what influenced them. Charlie does a good job interviewing artists I think.
