Charlie, remember when you asked Doris, our TV Historian, if Lincoln was gay? She said men slept together and wrote letters to each other so no big deal for that time.
Well the "Maverick" historian says otherwise over on the History Channel.
LINCOLN—10 Things You Did Not Know

Here is the "Maverick" Historian on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Eisenbach
Lincoln Slept with Men (documented evidence with three men and one of them as President in a 34 room mansion (no need to share a bed here), 1) Billy Green, slept with him on a narrow cot, 2) Joshua Speed, slept with him for four years, 3) David Derrickson, an Army Officer, slept with him at the Presidential Retreat in 1862--together went to church services, theater and became a bro-mance, daughter of a Supreme Court Justice gossips about this)
Lincoln felt enslaved as a child (by his father to neighbors to pay debt)
Lincoln likes fist fights (Jackson probably first, then Lincoln in number of fights)
Lincoln wrote an essay DENYING the divinity of the Holy Bible and never joined a church (but he knows the power of religion and uses it to help win the Presidency)
Lincoln is the only President to ever get a patent: #6469 (a way to give a Riverboat buoyancy to get off a sandbar)
Lincoln might be considered a Racist (In 1862 he said Blacks are far removed from equality with the White race. So better for both races to be separated. His plan for them was to be deported to Panama to a place like Monroe's Liberia.)
Lincoln had trouble with women (not fun, cold feet about getting married to two women, 3 years of on again-off again drama and then at age 34 gets married to Mary Todd, he is no Jack Kennedy.)
Best Friend owned Slaves (Joshua Speed, who Lincoln slept with for four years, was visited by Lincoln and Speed's family detailed Lincoln a slave to provide him service during his visit, this had a profound effect on Lincoln's attitude toward slavery)
Lincoln gets shot at and the bullet rips into his hat (Lincoln used to ride alone to the summer cottage and this bullet passes inches from his head, he later creates the Secret Service the day before he was assassinated)
Lincoln is actually photographed with his killer (Booth attended a speech and when Lincoln said that freed slaves should get the right to vote this was too much for Booth)

REMant - you indeed shat yourself (below). Disappointing. Will require lots of grains of salt for your future entries.

It is flat out absurd to think the North's defeat of the South is as bad as keeping an entire people in chains.

REMant showing his true colors.
Take your revisionist history and throw it in the nearest sewer where it belongs.

It was said that Lincoln was a consensus leader but dug in when needed.
So how would Lincoln have done against the dogma created by Grover Norquist?

I believe the term could get in bed with them is a political term not homosexual.

By the way, you mentioned "Team of Rivals".
Charlie, please click on this link:http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/Teamo
See how C-SPAN treats Doris and her audience?
Look at how that Transcript works--you can search for key words and it takes you to the point on the video where it is said.
This is what you need. I will donate for it.

When Nora talked about the letters indicating a homosexual relationship I was pulling for you Charlie.
Charlie, I hoped you would have looked over to Doris and asked her how these letters compared to the ones Lincoln wrote--the letters which caused some historians to suggest Lincoln was a homosexual.
Doris, during a previous interview, said men just spoke that way--referring to Lincoln's letters telling men he could not wait to get in bed with them.
So what made these letters different Doris and Nora?

Shakespeare meant far more to Lincoln than the beautiful use of language as poetry. It represented an opening of the door to a far more sophisticated world of state craft, power, influence, palace intrigue, psychology and other forms of human folly. It was in a sense his college education. Further it was from the several dark suicidal vortex like episodes that Lincoln went through that helped shape his character. During these episodes he not only resolved his own conflicts but learned the humility of his own limitation from which he was able to understand the hearts of men and their limitations.
Further it was apparent to anyone who cared to notice that from the moment BO said "bitter and clinging to..." that he was no Lincoln. For BO was presumptuously arrogant in his appraisal that was based upon an intellectual preconception. The difference between Lincoln and Obama is that Lincoln used emotion as a sounding board for his decisions, and Obama uses his intellect as that sounding board. From Lincoln we get the Gettysburg address and from Obama we get vapid in their non specificity and emotionally hollow speeches that do not connect with the listeners. It is by using emotion that one can measure or temper ones decisions it keeps one grounded in reality. By using intellect one can be "detached" as Gen McCHrystal said and fly as high as Icarus.

You can, of course, make Booth into some sort of pathetic character in typical liberal fashion, but of Lincoln's demise I'd have to quote Galatians: "God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" and place it in the same category as Oklahoma City and Sept 11. What the North did to the South, and, indeed, has done to the entire country since the founding, was and remains every bit as bad as slavery. Incidentally, one thing authors have to learn is to write their own ideas in their own words.
