You are right about the middle of the road opinion that will not fight for jobs and human rights in general.
It is opinion grounded on the wish that shopping will bring us back the jobs we shipped to Asia to maximize business profit for a decade at the cost of killing industry and all future hope of wealth and leadership.
But do you have a plan or strategy to re-industrialize America and build the trillion robots to give us the people we need to stay ahead of Asia?
Do you care if we forget how to manufacture shoes and socks and are only able to make movies and trouble for the middle class?
Let us here your vote for spending money we will back with economic output as we budget fro full employment of you and all your family.
If you are not for full employment, full education free from the cradle to the grave, full health care free from the cradle to the grave, full environmental protection to keep you grandchildren alive, and hard work by all of us and all of our machines, THEN WHAT IS IT YOU WANT? WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO TO HELP YOU MAKE AMERICA WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE?

There is NO NEWS here and no new unpredictable analysis. Sorry, but GS is clueless, playing it safe, unhelpful. 'In some senses yes and in some senses no.' These two are talking to themselves - perhaps to hear themselves talk? If this is the intellectual or mover and shaker level of dialogue, more evidence of American decline.
Larry King questions. Full of cliches and dumbed down answers, nothing really new about the REAL issues facing us or the world. GS is continually saying that he would have done differently on those things were we know the outcome would have made the decision better. It's called Monday morning quarterbacking. Talking about their surprise -- well, TRY THE FACTS, TRY THINKING, TRY TALKING TO SOMEONE NOT ensconced in the power elite of America who days of influence are numbered if not already irrelevant.
Try watching Fox or Democracy Now -- just get a clue about what is really going on here. I increasing have to go elsewhere for anything that is not the power elite congratulating themselves and rehashing the same old material. Charlie Rose, you can and have done better!
GS: Obama is doing 'solid'? Are you kidding me? No matter what side you are on, this guy and this conversation is just clueless and a waste of my time to watch. And given how few comments there are on Charlie Rose website, maybe comments are also just not worth the time.
It's just that I once prized my nightly Charlie Rose discussion for something intelligent.

The above link to my argument in favor of government mandated production (via contracts and hired hands) of all our missing output and the money to buy it, as we did in WW II.
The notion that a pure profit motive, without purpose of strategy for future success behind it, can give us the edge we need to stay alive, is false.
We have elected a senator to lead a nation (as David Brooks has pointed out) when we needed a natural leader who can teach not a teacher who will not lead.
We have rescued Wall Street but not a system of production on the scale demanded NOW. Where will we find a leader who will submit a full employment, full green, full speed ahead budget -- and mobilize a people to embrace it?
Where is the leader who will champion the rights, entitlements and obligations of every American to be a soldier at the front and on the production line, as well as enjoy our Bill of Political Rights and yet to be enacted bill of economic rights, who also has the smarts to know how to curb corruption and bad habits when the time to change is NOW and the time for excuses is past.

More "top people" propaganda from the Democratic Party machine types. There is a simple question that no one wants to ask: How much do taxes have to go up, to get out of this debt mess, assuming NO cuts to any program? The answer to this question will be the really big "policy decision" that awaits the Democrat/Republican greed machine. P.S. Obscene remarks are unappreciated by every adult person who has posted comments over the years. If you can't express yourself, fellow viewers, as an adult, I suggest posting remarks on more juvenile sites, suitable to your maturity!

I don't think anything is to be gained from comparing the present to the Clinton admin, or hypothesizing about what may happen o/a Aug 2, except that Mitch McConnell seems to be willing enough to undercut the process in order to play presidential politics. I was not really surprised to see that, and is why I had hoped he would not be re-elected. I feel fairly certain that if a Republican occupied the Oval Office, he would be delighted to raise the debt limit.
