      To REMant:

Is it real love? What kind of question is that? And what possible relevance could that have in this case? Marriage, as it is being discussed here is not about love. It's about a contract with the state and the privileges that come with that contract.

I fail to see how NYC's (or PBS's!) reputation wil be harmed here.

Care to expound on that belief? Please use as many commas as you need.

REMant, you must be pretty old. This is what young people want and you are on the wrong side of history.

I don't know what more I can say on this subject than I did yesterday. Are these "gay" families really families? Or are we in a backhanded way legitimizing a merely contractual relationship? Is it true religion, or some egotistic conception? Is it real love, or misguided? There is in my mind a connection between the idea of "gay" rights and feminism, and always has been going all the way back to Catherine Beecher. Too, was this part of a deal struck over the budget? And, has anyone in NYC (or PBS) realized the kind of damage this will do to their reputation in the country as a whole? BTW, New York was also the site of the Civil War conscription riots.
