Breaking the myth that blacks don't get ahead in this country has been very difficult. The problem lies in not getting the recognition and appreciation they simply deserve because minorities have been feared for their influence in the scales of power. That is why we have weeks in a calendar year celebrating each other's achievements. It is all OK people, minorities are good for this country kind of a thing. A bit trite, but well meaning I guess when one considers what happened in the 60s.

I look towards the day when none of that needs to exist in order to be accepted. That is true liberation and the demise of racism.

Based out of fear, ignorance and outright inability to reconcile cultural differences from the so called the established ruling class, racism still prevails in this country. It all sounds so out of date and narrow now. But it still lingers like a dirty handkerchief hanging out from a pocket.

It is a hard road to travel for minorities, but a very enriching one if one is receptive to the twist and turns of an uncertain path.

I can understand his wife's frustration when her husband is running for Governor. I was involved in politics and I had a friend who was running for office. I felt bad for the man. The reporters would not give him a moment of privacy. It seems privacy does not even exist! But that's another topic.
