(NOT READING THIS WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT)

did you hear about how vegan's are three times more likely to go blind (it's because they spend all their time reading the labels on everything in the grocery store)

vegan is a good thing i've read the johns hopkins medical newsletter on and off over a period of ten years and they usually report on the new england journal of science or medicine or whatever it's called and it pretty much confirms everything she said

nowhere did they promote being a vegan but you can put the pieces together

i'm having psychological problems eating fish but if i eat spirulina in my juice (try to get non concentrated with pulp) every morning and i put it in after putting in psyllium husks to prevent clumping i eat a lot less fish i just started doing it and i stopped ever cooking the fish in my freezer (this was a while ago) i would like to buy all different types of algae type things but it gets expensive

i would preferably naturally be a vegan though i get paranoid about certain things and i take fish oil so i can't call myself a vegan sometimes i eat yogurt but it hasn't been making me feel good my mom is convinced i have to eat yogurt and there is something in eggs that you supposedly can't get anywhere else but i refuse to eat eggs as of now

for a while about 9 years ago i was just buying egg whites but then i just stopped eggs all together they always made me feel weird growing up and i could never cook them

i grew up just not eating red meat thinking down on vegans my whole life thinking they were not knowing what they were doing but then i quit butter then i quit cheese then i quit chicken and turkey (these things happened naturally i quit eggs a bunch of times growing up) i just got sick of getting sick after eating (and then one day i realized i was pretty much a vegan it was nothing i ever planned

i just love eating all day long and not ever getting sick from eating food

now i can't go back cuz the concept of eating an animal makes me disgusted and repulsed and i can't eat fish anymore though i still do in restaurants (but each time it gets bad)

i take fish oil and try to pretend in my mind i'm not

so the psychological aspect came after but i was surprised that the quitting of eating chicken and turkey made me feel a thousand times better just with energy and health

i do remember reading something about them stopping the mandatory vegetarian thing in cuba and they're getting all messed up now supposedly or maybe they're suddenly all getting fat and obese and getting diabetes i can't remember

but my weight doesn't vary no matter what i eat

and red meat without a doubt is a cancer creater this is a fact there's nothing good from it

i think people just have the ability to become cannibals in the event of starvation there are definitely animals out there that eat themselves and mountain lions are 100% meat eaters

i just haven't researched it and experienced it enough to without a doubt tell people to become vegan

i'm going to get tests done like calcium i just recently stopped taking calcium supplements so i want to wait a while and have my levels tested and see what happens

sometimes intuition goes a long way cuz i remember when i was a kid and they were saying avocados were full of fat and you shouldn't eat them i just knew that was wrong

also vegan is hard to describe because what really counts where do you actually draw the line

but i've never eaten mammals my entire life

like what about plankton and what about honey honey is made from bees and molluscs (uuugh) anyway what about a slime mold could you eat a slime mold

and it's hard to eat shrimp if you've ever looked at them alive in an aquarium

basically vegans are better cuz i'll eat how i eat and if everybody around me is a vegan then i'm set cuz they create all of the best grocery stores and restaurants

on the east coast vegan almost stands for fake meat which i usually try out just for the experience but then i realized that i don't really like fake meat cuz it tastes like meat it's not actually that healthy cuz they put like salt in it and stuff and weird things

i think it goes beyond vegan vegan alone can be unhealthy if you eat stuff like white rice and white bread and sugar and stuff like that

just read all the studies they do and pay attention to how things affect your body and make you feel and monitor your health and whatever it'll work out whatever you do

but be warned the more extreme you get eating well the more your body can't handle unhealthy food and if you ever find yourself in some far off society you might be screwed and you might die

or if the only grocery store is whole foods you might find yourself with no money

so i'm not sure about fish and i'm not sure about yogurt and i eat feta cheese and goat cheese on occasion just for i don't know why and there is something in eggs but i personally don't eat eggs but i'm sure about everything else and i'm not sure about milk as far as kids go i became lactose intolerant at some point in my late teens and chicken and turkey i know as of now it's way better for me not to eat that

i'm really trying to eliminate salt and sugar right now and also i don't eat processed things like when i eat bread it has to be all whole grains with no dairy or sweetener sometimes i'll allow molasses if i'm getting it for free but i don't really know what that is

cereal i've been eating whole grains with no sugar i drink caffein on occasion like yerba mate unsweetened and i eat chocolate every so often which is hard to not eat sweetened and one thing to note is if you buy yogurt with vanilla they usually add sugar

i do take multi vitamin making sure the vitamin a is all natural with no iron there are a lot of various issues with supplements i take other supplements too

but i would agree there are a lot of other factors beyond just how you eat as far as how you feel and how healthy you are and how well your life is going

but eating is a big part of it

for me i just try to eat a big wide variety of things just keep trying new things you've never heard of and just go with how i feel also i'm going to get set up and start using recipes to create greater variety in herbs and stuff like that that i don't think to put in my food

they're selling stuff like crab apples dandelion leaves all different kinds of roots like burdock five different kinds of radishes strange fruits rainbow everything like rainbow carrots acai berries cactuses edible flowers also if you pick like 6 different grocery stores that you like and alternate to vary it up and check out farmers markets too (as of now way too expensive) i really feel like now that we've gone global with the food market it's the best time to be vegan (and the more local you buy it allows room for global - like culturally we've adopted fruits and vegetables from all over the world)

      make up your own recipes

      it makes life more enjoyable

when i was a kid a shot of wheat grass juice cost like $2 definitely prices have been coming way down the more competition and the more people eat like this the better

i also plan on getting into growing food one day

so even if you're not a vegan (and it's hard because you might get tricked somewhere) it's still positive to promote veganism

it's almost like eating food is like taking drugs it makes you feel really good and gets you super high mix it with exercise and you will improve your life

but it's a gradual thing that takes a while to get into as you become self aware of how things affect your body and as that happens to you it becomes harder to push the negatives to the back of your mind too

but still it's a good thing (it's like getting a grasp on and understanding of what is going on and it gives a clearer picture and goal of what to work on)

it's sort of like getting hooked on heroin after a while your whole world is consumed and you're going insane and there's no going back

Longevity and good health has been a blessing in my family's genes. My parents, uncles and aunts have all passed the 75+ benchmark in remarkably good health, living in two different societies, one that is carnivore (US) and one that is practically vegetarian due to economic constraints (Cuba). The ones in Cuba lived slightly longer by the fact that they had to walk to get to places while we here in the US we had cars. Overall the lifestyle in the US is more sedentary than in many societies. Also social interaction plays a part in a person's quality of life. So I really can't say that going vegan is the answer, but just plain reducing the amount of animal protein is good for the environment in terms of carbon footprint. There is a deficiency in vitamin Bs in the vegan community that only supplements can offer help. So I am still a bit skeptical although I honeslty think future generations will probably be more vegetarian. We are just evolving into becoming more plant based in our dietary options.

I don't think vegan is for everyone, but most people could stand to benefit from decreasing their animal fat intake, considering the mass produced methods used to produce animals. I disagree with her moral convictions towards going vegan, and instead find the poor quality of the animals in our food system coming from factory farms much more alarming and certainly a more compelling argument for going towards a plant based diet. Although, eating all plants assumes people have access to fresh fruits and vegetables. And according to the USDA, food deserts (defined as census tracts where many people do not have close access to large supermarkets) suggest the availability of fresh food is not distributed equally.

wrote long message but decided not to post delete delete delete focus on the positive fruits vegetables all kinds of food berries and things being vegan i drink unsweetened soymilk and other things i'm not really a vegan but i'm close and i'm closer than in the past when i was growing up

i would say for quitting things for me the easiest is one specific thing at a time rather than one day out of the week at a time

but then i can't even comprehend the concept of eating ??!?!! at every meal for a whole week

check out the bulk section they have all different colors of dried things to cook

    5. blank  05/19/2011 11:17 PM Report

everybody has something about them that makes them a winner i think things should just be left at that (at some point all of our bodies shut down and we all die and i think just do your best to enjoy it while it lasts and to live for yourself which i think coincides with doing what is best for the world) cheesy i know but i think it's true and i don't feel like i'm here anymore (i'm a winner in life) there is no best person we all can work on becoming better people and being happy in life when i look back on my life i don't regret any of it maybe at times things could have gone better but also they could have not gone better too so it's just how things go you're right here at this time and things can always improve from here

REMant there is a lot of information that you need to research. I would suggest looking up animal proteins and how they effect your body especially how they cause your bones to leach calcium. If your looking for calcium in a drink try replacing milk with Almond milk. As far a protein goes, again you need to do more research about what foods are out there. Try looking up Quinoa. It's a grain that delivers a perfect protein which means it includes 9 essential amino acids. And to comment on your statement about where to grow all the produce, again you need to do some research about the astronomical amount of damage the farming industry has and is doing to the earth. It's shameful!

A good book for you to pick up would the The China Study. You'll be very surprised I think by what you read.

Ms Freston doesn't confine her good-do-beeism to food. She's been a love and meditation guru as well, part, it seems, of Oprah's hive. To my ears, v?gan since it comes from vegetarian, sounds less snobbish. The word is not even in my old Funk and Wagnall's. There's no shortage of highly saturated plant fats, not to mention sugars, which I doubt are any better, for example in peanut butter, and a great deal of very lean meat and fish around. I wonder if there's enough land to grow all the vegies needed to replace animals, too. There must be some reason for carnivores in evolution. And, correct me if I'm wrong, it's a lot easier to eat a well-balanced diet with animal products in it, than without them. Think for instance about getting enough calcium. You're talking spinach, broccoli, kale and other stuff kids just love. There's some in beans, and added to OJ, but that's about it. Anyway, that must be why Bill looks so emaciated these days. She does too, come think about it. Oprah it appears has yet to take her advice. If these types really want to change things tho, they'll have to come up with the recipes, and, I'd think, the food mfrs some new products to sub for the old. It shouldn't be too hard, for instance to make acceptable pizzas without mozzarella, but I don't know what I'd put on my cereal.
