I was motivated to comment in response by both comments, because I find both hilarious in certain aspects in that they do reveal much about the demographics of the person who is writing as well as what they were thinking at this age.

About the interview, I was quite moved by it. Inspired really. I think it odd I have not seen 127 hours, although I am a Danny Boyle fan. I saw the trailer and it just gave me the creeps....maybe when I am feeling a bit more brave.

I read about it though, the behind the scenes about how Danny was directing James and gave him an enormous amount of freedom that only Marlon Brando on the set of Apocalypse Now with Francis Ford Coppola might have shared in common.

They also, and James also mentioned that it was the 'little bits' of acting that editing really does make the performance. So I don't think it will distract from James Franco as an actor but really just responds to the fact that like David Mamet says in his book I will not mention you can find it if you are interested. "Just Show up and deliver the lines (or in this case the feelings) as they are written upon the page"

With that I might ad, I don't think screenplay could be very noble as compared to actually lying in the dirt with the rocks and chopping off your own leg to survive.

No I think that part is why James Franco is getting all the attention. And @REMant how can you tell the size of the audience or the gender just from an audio take? The way you made it sound is more like the girls that go to Brown are a bunch of Soap Opera dirges and I take offense the that! No I didn't go to Brown, but I know a fellow alum that did and quite frankly I think she might say this too! Well maybe not...I am a guy, and I can say this. Guys will not GUFFAW or be GIDDY in any audience to be able to be recorded. Just be thankful is wasn't like the WORLD CUP! with the gawd damn favelas )I can't spell it nor do I wish too! They were a bother and even if they were a culture icon for Africa, I think they were made in China, but I digressed.

      back to the subject.

James Franco is like James Dean in this interview or at least I think he performed as much like him. I thought he was and it was odd that while watching it the second time, this time in full and with my wife (a soap opera lover) she didn't laugh like those girls...though she like Matthew Mc...whatever.....you know....this is about James Franco.....not that other dude....

But, @natalie7 in response to "He has deep dark thoughts that need expression and he is trying to find the right mix of mediums to express his inner self." HAW HAW HAW!

      what a bunch of malarky!

      DEEP DARK THOUGHTS?

The only deep dark thoughts I would think the guy might have is about how deep he can dive into your garden sweetheart...sorry....just saying......one for the boys ...really....

No artist is that freaking dark....oh gad .....

      this is just too funny....

      inner self...

I like that...I will use your stuff really..

but you are right....I am getting sick and tired of all this CHARLIE SHEEN "HEROISM" in AMERICA

and there needs to be a FUCKING NEW SET OF RULES

because quite frankly there are no more JOHN WAYNES.....

      there needs to be more......

I am tired of all these MILK TOAST fannies.....

      Trying to be 'sensitive'

WE ARE ....in the dark with our honeys....

but please....geezz louise....lets get back to the program....

      HONESTLY?

      HE NAILED IT!!!!!

I LIKE THE IDEA OF BREAKING THE RULES OF HOLLYWOOD!

The idea of looking the CAMERA IN THE EYE?

that is the MONEY SHOT in PORNO....girls usually do it more than men

WIDE ANGLE LENS will give you the BLAIR WITCH LOOK

or the you know MONEY SHOT.....

but if you have to be a MALE you get "127 hours"

No GUY SUMBITS himself to that much ruin...or at least I have not seen it nor do I care too quite frankly......

But these cameras are getting smaller and cinema or micro cinema is going to be a thing we all discover this next decade.....

I will end here.....I think @REMant's last part I agree with mostly....

As an actor just trying to discover 'acting' in the real world let alone on some recorded media......1984 George Orwell is now! not 1984! the year....

I think Marlon Brando had it best. Or said it best...about Acting...

All Actors are Liars. Everyone is an Actor. We all Lie to people every day of our lives!

That is the truth when you dig really deep and cut out all the deep dark thoughts....and need for expression....

watch that film "EXIT THROUGH THE GIFTSHOP"

and you might get my humor.....

But as far as Franco is concerned?

I like him! and his TRANSPARENCY

It is like 'natalie7' put it so wisely....and I will shut my mouth...."refreshing" to find HONESTY and EMBARRASSMENT

or willing to be embarrassed...yesss. that is it.....

      Where is Jack Kerouac? Today?

I find James Franco to be refreshingly honest. He is learning for the sake of learning. Experience as learning the Emerson way.

I saw his art show The Dangerous Book 4 Boys and I read Palo Alto. He has deep dark thoughts that need expression and he is trying to find the right mix of mediums to express his inner self. He is also a truth seeker but being a "movie star" is the complete opposite of truth so he tries to find it in his artistic pursuits. I wish him the best. The press is really giving him a hard time yet he has behaved more honorable than Charlie Sheen or Lindsay.

It's sad when trying hard and trying to fulfill your potential is met with such negativity.

    3. REMant  05/09/2011 11:40 AM Report

I thought this was pretty funny, because on the one hand you have a guy who aims at being a polymath, while on the other, the audience, which appeared to be mainly female, seemed to be interested in him only because he's a daytime TV star. Of the two, unfortunately, I thought the audience assessed the situation the more correctly, at least at this point in time. Not only can you not approach learning as a performance, it is not a matter of fads either, and I would suggest, you can't have art without a real understanding of nature. It's a common enough problem these days and found in the pointless artificiality and hypocrisy of most of it, as well as, in the scholasticism of our educational system, and of the careerism in the workplace. Beyond this, I find it difficult to believe that actors and actresses can ever focus sufficiently to discover anything, or realize themselves as individuals. They seem trapped in a treadmill of trying on personalities to see if any fit, and I suppose, too, that is why they always align themselves with the oppressed.
