How to write a sentence?? (..Hah! ..a life sentence!!) ..but where is the Why to write a sentence??

So Matthew Arnold thought the social struggle on Dover Beach was "ignorant"? ..as he also thought America was nothing but dry and barren "brass and steel", ..so he runs away again to wander among his precious dreams.

Wasn't writing invented to communicate information, facts, and knowledge??

Two years ago, as so many cities were filing for bankruptcy, ..with fire and police unions despicably fighting librarians for the remnants of taxpayer money, ..I was in a B&N looking for a book that would offer me the knowledge of what a time-tested city-management formula looks like.

How much should be budgeted for roads? ..schools? ..water supply? ..police and firemen?? -- How much for the hospital? ..the city staff? ..and emergency savings??

Guess what?? ..I couldn't find that book!!!

America is crashing down around us, .."dreams" smashing into "deficits", and into their own incongruities -- the bright neighborhood street lamps are removed for monetary savings, ..but then police must be called in to arrest the now-wilding burglars -- Banks fail! ..Factories close! ..once-happy homes now sit vacant, with broken windows and weeds!!

..and yet there is not even one book here, among the 50,000 in this "modern" bookstore, to show us how a simple city can be run to survive!!

What was that reason for a written language again????

Charlie's interview of Stan Fish and Roger Rosenblatt was like imbibing a dram of soulful brandy wishing that there was more to come...alas it had to end. Brilliant insight to those who love to write...
