Outstanding interview from an inspiring guest. Apparently Andy Garcia is playing him in a movie about the 2008 war (due out this month). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5_Days_of_August

Excellent interview and excellent advice given out of his own personal experience of what he considered to be the U.S.' best help. Georgia's President highly praises U.S. commitment in standing with him throughout his struggle and encouraging him to not give up on winning for democracy. That strong stand means everything and is key in Libya, Bahrain, Egypt et al crying for their Rights. Stand with and encourage. The physical presence of our leaders next to him in Georgia's confrontations with Russia (Biden for one) meant so much to him to keep him going. It seemed to me so timely for what we can do now. http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/11538

Not long after the events in Tahir Square, Yulia Tymoshenko wrote an article claiming to represent "democracy" in Ukraine. Not many ppl agreed, because of persistent rumors concerning her own position as the kind of "oligarch" she claims to oppose, and in a 2007 Foreign Affairs article she also called for Russian containment, no doubt pleasing the Bush admin. All of which sounds to me very much like Pres Saakashvili. But no one seems to really know what their motives are anymore than those in the Arab world. Nor the kind of relationship they expect with the US. Are they really concerned about Russia or are they just continuing to suck up to the neocons, like Mubarak, Qaddafi and the others? And if they are really interested in peace and prosperity, why continue to bait their former rulers? I'm tempted to say it seems not only self-serving, but, in the usual obsessive way of American "progressives," self-destructive. Everything is somebody else's fault, and they are innocent victims, yet they can't seem to do anything constructive without at the same time slapping themselves in the face.
