Sad to hear of his passing. When you're young, you assume so many people will be around forever and you take them for granted. As the years go by they just keep slipping away, and every time, it reminds you that eventually it's gonna be all over.

Broder's last column appeared only a month ago, and I had no idea he was that ill, or in fact that he was 81. Fundamental fairness got him both contacts and readers, something the younger generation might keep in mind. I quarreled with two of his columns late last year, because of a perceived bias against the Tea Party, but he will be missed, not least because he got out of this town and looked around, and I wonder if anyone not born in the Midwest would have done the same.
