With the economic foundation of global democratic trends coming unglued, and Egypt leading the news on account of nuclear weapons Egypt does not even have (in other words -- for NO good reason aside from fear of a WMD arms race in the Middle East), Barbara and Charlie treated us to consideration individual mortality as a really BIG topic for every living soul at one time or another.

I enjoyed a quintuple bypass right after heart attacks on April Fool's Day 2001. That's a decade ago. My doctor was as good as they come -- the best in the world -- whose name is protected by me for his privacy. I only missed a few weeks of tennis and felt no pain at any time.

Now I'm 85 and a half. I'd like to vacation at the Last Hurrah Spa where funeral and medicare costs are saved and we can go out at the top of our game -- skipping a bitter end that none of us deserve.

Barbara and Charlie were fine. They ought to join me in a political party that supports individual choice in the matter of timing our last hurrah.

At what cost? Charlie Rose did his operation in France.

If he were a citizen he wouldnt need to pay anything I assume.

I went to visit Barbara too, but they turned me away. I suspect it's because I'm a big fat nobody.

Charlie--good to have you alive these last six years when it was so touch-and-go. You have taught me incredible things and taken me to incredible places in the last six years.

CHARLIE ROSE: They put one (cow valve) into my heart, and they weren’t happy with it. So that’s another three or four hours. And they take it out. Then they put another one in. At this point every part of me is in shock. The systems are almost in failure. And so they spend 14 hours on the operating table. And when the doctor leaves and he says it’s too early to tell, I don’t know.

      WOW!!!

Barbara says, "I want everybody to know, as David Letterman said, that there’s no reason for anybody to die because there is open heart surgery . . ."

Yes, but at what cost--not everyone is a millionaire on television.

Thank you, Charlie and Barbara, for sharing your personal experiences so openly and honestly. As a woman, it is especially enlightening to learn about the difference in symptoms for women, as compared to those of men.

I am grateful that you are both well!
