It would be really nice to be able to read Mr. Hopkin's biography. Just as he enjoys reading other's. Great interview

I encourage robdverity to read Mortimer Adler, a brilliant philosopher & educator who became a Christian late in life. For me, Christianity is the true philosophy involving the supernatural, but consistent with reason & science. Due to the many mysteries of life, my leaps of faith are founded on God's wisdom, as I understand it, integrated with reason from critical thinking. Christian faith does not involve superstition.

@robdverity: Those who denigrate faith in an entity whose existence cannot be proven in the natural dimensions are no more dogmatic, 'dumb' or myth-driven than those who steadfastly maintain that there cannot be such an entity. To do so, which you do with amazing hubris, is to presume that your breadth of knowledge (and experience) encompasses and even surpasses all of which can be known or experienced in the natural realm. Talk about smug superiority...
robdverity 01/29/2011 03:15 PM Report
All religions suborn (thru dogma) the real to the surreal (defying death, ascents to the sky (bodily - Jesus or horseback - Mohamed). This bit of mythical magic they assign to "faith." If it defies natural laws, or logic relegate it to faith.
The only thing 'faith' will do for mankind will be to shorten its existence - while immolating each other. Over what? Why faith of course. My myths are more 'authentic' than your myths. We're too dumb to deserve survival.
Tony adds to the dumbing-down. All the while looking smugly superior.

After watching Mr. Hopkins talk about how his own problems informed the way he portrayed a priest that doubts and recovers, my faith in faith was increased.

Disappointing. Demeans him. His demeanor, movies suggests that belief in Beelzebub provides impetus for belief in God. Really? Sillier than the Pope. But fear a la movies re exorcism doubtless increases Catholic coffers. The main idea of course.

Faith or not, they say belief in demons and the like signals decay, perhaps like a rise in the price of gold. If so, we must be in a lot of trouble.
