      @REMant:

      "Yes we are imperious, and they haven't forgotten gun boat diplomacy, and all the rest of it."

      Sure, America's been imperious but you gotta admit some of the imperialism has been benign. If it wasn't for the American involvement to help South Korea, the entire Korea would probably be communist by now.

      And since we're on the topic of Korea, yes the Chinese are imperious too because no we haven't forgotten the Korean War, there war with India and pretty much the rabid nationalistic xenophobia with the rest of it either.

      "What's a century to a country with a history of several millennia? "

      Gee what a great question. I don't know maybe the fact of having the largest economy in the world, the most powerful military in the world, the civilization-state of the West, a state of 300 million people of a plethora of different races, ethnicities, religion.

      Turns out your just another extremist in moderate's clothing afterall.

      Hiding in plain site? There he is. Why are he and the rest of the complicit NY bankers and wise-guys still free? He, Lloyd Blankfein, Robert Rubin et al put the world ec. in the toilet. Bailed? Should be jailed!

      Yes, we are imperious, and they haven't forgotten gun boat diplomacy, and all the rest of it. What's a century to a country with a history of several millennia? They are justifiably proud of their heritage and achievements. But there are also great fans of America there, as in the rest of the world. Our task is to live up to the advanced billing. The US has long considered itself part of the Pacific community, and it was this that got us into WWII after all, altho you can argue whether it was in defense of colonial interests or not. I think initially not, tho the Japanese put out a different idea, and it was only because of the Soviet threat to Western Europe that this changed.
