Great interview! Patti Smith is a prophetess, as well as a genuine human being. I was moved by Just Friends and have enjoyed her music for years. We need more oracular poets in music. In my opinion, the only artistes who approach Patti are these two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP5ggZRsNh8. Rock on, Ms. Smith.

Thanks Charlie for introducing me to Patti Smith. Her book, Just Friends, is a beautiful story of trust and love and much more. I didn't want it to end and when the story was over I turned back to page one and started to read it again. I felt her humanity on every page.

My partner and I have hit a bit of a rough spot. When talking about her relationship with R. Maplethorpe Ms. Smith commented that "we have to hurt each other in order to grow." I was not looking for lovelorn advice but lets just say Mr. Rose's show has yet again opened a door, allowed me to think another way about a topic, to break free of some constraints. And it was good to hear Patti talk about Jimi.

The real gem in Patti's book is at the end- Her poetry! Charlie, I was ecstatic to turn you on and see her smiling across from you. I hope it totally confused people...It goes to show that it's our loss when we judge a book by it's cover.

Conflicted. Plain but beautiful. There was too much to her to fully grasp. A kind of gravitas that somehow exposed my own inadequacies. Can't pin or pen why. Scary.
Epitomized "Beauty is only skin deep."
Kudos to Charlie for seeing something as well. Maybe the Charlie fawners are right after all. Quite a woman.

I regret to say that I don't know Ms Smith from Adam Ant, but the observation that we miss those who knew us is insightful.
