REMant, hope you're kidding. Please refrain from spreading misinformation. Timothy Mcvey's had a general opposition to our government. It was not inspired by Clinton's administration specifically. Specifically, he was upset with the way the ATF handled the Waco situation. Here's a tip, Clinton was not calling the shots at the ATF.

Dencal26, nobody is linking Loughner to conservatives. Rational people in general, are trying to minimize the use of violent imagery in conservative politics whether its bringing guns to rallies, putting crosshairs on your political enemies, language like "retreat and reload". This type of rhetoric generally comes from the right. In general, i haven't met any republicans that disagree that this rhetoric needs to be toned down. You'd probably be the first.

Similarly, there were no liberals applauding or apologizing for Ayers. Conservative commentators were trying to forge a connection between Ayers and Obama. The implication being that Obama was a protege of Ayers. THAT is what the left was disputing. Saying Obama had close ties with Ayers is like saying one of Loughner's classmates was sympathetic to the recent massacres because they were classmates at some point. It was a weak link. Apparently, you're the only person that still believes there is a link, and you've completely misunderstood what Democrats were disputing regarding Ayers. No one was apologizing for Ayers' actions.

I recommend reading the recent Washington Post article titled "Republican school board in N.C. backed by tea party abolishes integration policy". In response to "jim crow laws" comment. Republican lead school boards are pushing for a return to segregation. It is not lettist or democratic run school boards pushing for this in that district. Apparently, 'too much government' is fine as long as it is pushing a racist or backward agenda.

      Sigh

Who said that if your enemies have knives, then you need to get guns?

Hmmm.... I see the divisive rhetoric is alive and well on this comment page.

I find the attempt to link this tragic event to conservatives is disgusting and dishonest. Now admitting Loughner was not motivated by such rhetoric the left still wants to attempt linkage. When did the left suddenly embrace civil language? After Paul Kanjorski said said Rick Scott should be shot? After defending Bill Ayers who placed 150 Bombs inside the USA? Ayers should be treated like a Pariah not a " Respected member of Academia". When was the last time you heard of a Violent right wing demonstration with violence or riots? This is a common theme at left wing demonstrations going back decades. Millions of Americans attended Tea Party rallys and all were peaceful. Who said lets" Kill Crackers and all their babies"? Was it a conservative? One panelist claimed accusations of Death Panels would lead to violence. Perhaps you don't know what a death panel is. Perhaps you do not understand it means rationing? What about claims the right will bring back Jim Crow laws? I believe Howard Dean made that claim. Sorry but I see the left just as violent or more so than the right.

Sure the president told his audience "what we can't do is use this tragedy as one more occasion to turn on one another." But in so doing he acknowledged the division and implied its involvement, and worse he patronized half the country by indicating they should be treated like wayward children by his clearly partisan audience. As I wrote a few days ago I am not at all convinced that "only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation." I think that it rather avoids the issue, which lies in the loss of community, or the belief that it is all a myth. IMHO he would have been better off to have stuck to eulogizing, or better still, sent his condolences. He chose instead to make it into a political moment the way Clinton did 15 yrs ago. Half the Federal building was blown off in response to the reprehensible actions of his own admin. Similarly, last evening, The News Hour, in the usual way it tries to handle these things, handpicked journalists to talk about it - two women, one Latino, and the lone white male from Oklahoma City of all places - and Mrs Hunt proceeded to lead them like a good prosecutor. I don't know where Palin got the idea about blood libel. Krauthammer just called it a libel. Blood libel suggests she was believed complicit in sacrificing the child. I would say tho that the charge cuts both ways. I am sure, too, that while Christina was undoubtedly a nice young girl, who did not deserve to have her life cut short, she was not the member of the Holy Family Obama seemed to try to make her into.
