REMant, "it becomes self-government" I wonder if self-government would work with radio frequencies, roads, defense, or air travel. I'm all for freedom and that includes regulation; but how are you views consistent with reality? Can we stop being ideologues and start being rational citizens?

Let's face facts, if the US defaults on its obligations it would cause a ripple effect all across the globe and may lead directly to war with China (our largest bond holder).

How would that "force the issue"? Unless you are advocating anarchy (a form of self-government), then I concede your point and let the law of the jungle decide.

Go ahead and not raise the national debt ceiling and witness and absorb the economic effects on the USA. Lots of luck but the first default will trump everything.

Frankly, I don't think they should raise the debt ceiling either. You have to start somewhere, and this will force the issue. The only chaos will be in the executive branch. Of course it matters whether govt is good or not, but a case can be made that if it is really good, it must be mostly non-existent, because it becomes self-government. This is like prices and debt: the lower they are the better the economy is, and for the same reason, an increase in individual competency.
