Our on mental midgets continue policies that engender long-term enmity and enemies (Iraq, Af-Pak); that makes anti-Americanism go viral from Yemen to Somalia to London to Detroit to NYC to yadda, yadda world-wide.

If we can't win, because of the law's of history, then Obama can't lose the war, because it was impossible. This is the logic of the liberal left. Think about Rose's comparison of Republicans and the Taliban/debt and repression. Petraeus must be smiling. Obama wins another one!

If you want an insider's assessment of what's happening on the ground, there's no better source than ISAF; here are some excellent pieces from Ben Anderson, a BBC reporter that has been embedded with both US and UK forces.

Thank you very much, Charlie, for this interview. It was depressing, but we need to know what's really going on in what's becoming another unwinable and costly--in lives and money--war. It's unconscionable that the withdrawal date has been pushed forward again. I hope President Obama and his advisers were listening!

I think it is clear from this that, as with Vietnam, the public is not being well-served by the media generally, for which I blame mainly the editors and publishers, many of whom are so biased that they will never print or allow anything to be said without some kind of spin on it. I am wondering if these two will still have their jobs today. BTW, when this all started I predicted we'd have to be there for a generation or more if we intended to accomplish anything. What makes Vietnam and Af-Pak different from Germany, Japan, or even Iraq, is that they are far less developed countries, so by definition you are talking about nation-building. Even at that I doubt the EU could have come about if we had not had several divisions sitting there for 50 years.
