Amy Adams looks like Charlene in the clip below. The Special Features says they expanded the Charlene role when they landed Amy Adams.
Charlene Fleming (played by Amy Adams in "The Fighter") was Micky Ward's fiancé at the time of this bout and was with Ward in the emergency room. Move the video forward, to see her at :32, 1:10 and 4:14.
Charlene is crying at 4:20. She is much taller than Micky.
Micky was hit 349 times and it shows.

So the real boxing story: Mickey Ward--double vision and missing peripheral vision in the right eye. Offered a million dollars to keep fighting but he said no.
Micky, "Why did I pick this sport."
(By the way, Arturo Gotti (shown in the clip) is dead--either suicide or his wife killed him. It is still up in the air. Brother Dickie was paid $193,000 for the rights to his story - captured in "The Fighter". The movie grossed $125M--over 600 times more. Perhaps Dickie got a percentage of gross?)

A comments area for Charlie Rose seems out of place.

Martial arts are mostly tasteless - particularly the 'mixed' sort of current TV inanity. However, a good marker for the state of humanity in general. Another in our quest to annihilate ourselves is the USA Today's survivability of a nuking of LA. So a bit of mayhem in a boxing ring is good. Inflict that pain cause it feels soooo good. Makes us better warriors long term. Our forte.

Does anyone watch the fights themselves anymore? Why would they watch films about them? This discussion certainly didn't do much to sell the idea. The family scene struck me as particularly insipid. A victim as hero film, it just seemed like a lot of sentimental schlock to me. What kind of family background did Leonard or Clay come from? Lowell was also home to the 1983 Pet of the Year and the Feb 1984 Playmate of the Month...so? A lot of improper Bostonians sound like New Yorkers, BTW. Not many Welsh.
