robdverity you keep doing this to me everytime I wanna move on.
I wish we would talk about this elsewhere. let me know if you're interrested.
I will just answer you by saying that your last comment is in itself an assumption of knowledge. I already told you that I am not interrested in planting faith in your heart, I dont have that qualification and maybe no human does.
What I was and kept repeating to you in a way or another is that you assume that you can not believe in God using Science and commun sense and I keep reteating you that maybe what you were told Vs what exist out there are different and that maybe you dont know everything out there, you claim to know, while you refuse to learn that you dont know everything and that you're only human and have so much more to learn. When and where did I say i am going to heaven and you to hell??? thats an assumption or maybe a deduction because maybe you're right that if there is God and you refuse to believe in God that maybe deep inside you know that will be consequences to that hearthead lol well that may be true since we know there are consequences to everything and every action ( according to science that is btw )
I told you from where I stand I know for a fact that if it was not for science, knowledge, education and commun sense I would not have been a Believer in God, period.
Are you gonna come back and tell me yet again what i know and what i believe and what I assume???
You believe in science and I am saying I do too. I also say and I am willing to prove it that Humans dont know much despite our claims and that we're not as advanced as we think we are and we have sooooo much more to learn
I am telling you dude, there is much you dont know and refuse to, and there is much I DONT KNOW as well, in a particular field and small part of science I know however for a FACT that God exisits I will repeat it for the last time:
Commun sense!
education!
Science!
are what si gonna make you believe in the existance of God, am I clear enough this time?
Faith and the choice of a religion is another matter that you can do on your own OR NOT, I am sure you're a big enough boy!
robdverity 12/03/2010 11:14 PM Report
OK, but (always a but, eh?) religions require more assuming about things even or especially SUPERNATURAL (which requires herculean assuming). So departing with a "don't assume" isn't balanced. Belief demands assumption because it demands "faith," the mother of all assumption. The futility of it all long term is too predictable - and it doesn't include a soporific infinity in an "assumed" heaven.
Assume this for comfort: I'll burn in your "assumed" hell, while you luxuriate in your "assured" heaven. Salaam!
AL1 12/03/2010 08:18 PM Report
Robdverity. All I ask is that you dont assume you know certain things, just learn, argue, research more because I swear to you most of what you say is based on assumptions of understanding religion then juging it. All I say is to please, for your sake, just research it some more from other angles then and only then say what you say now. The world is not black or white just like Darwin himself by the way is not all right and is not all wrong.
Leave assumptions alone and research it some more without preconceptions thats all I suggested. I get your point and hope you get mine too.
Good luck to all of you guys. Thanks for the interresting opinions and arguments. Take care. Thank you!

AL1 - Once more - against religions. They're demeaning to mankind long term. Mankind's tenure will be shortened BECAUSE of religion; not enriched or lengthened as they all claim. The immaturity of our species seems to cling to a NEED to want a big comforter-in-the-sky. When (if) we grow up and take care of our mutual (Darwinian-based) existence, then we will deserve survival. Fat chance! We will wipe out our mutual existence based on such solid issues as beliefs personified by (stone oriented) belief systems. Sad when you consider we are the main species with developed cognitive abilities.
Enough! Let this die. Depresses me. Not my lack of religion, but others apparent incessant need for it. Survival requires that it be earned. Religions will assure otherwise.
Amen. Shalome. Allah Akbhar. bs.

This article set the stage of things to come and gives North Korea a great opportunity to light up the skies over Tokyo with 5,200 missiles as a preemptive first strike, including 5 or 6 missiles armed with nuclear warheads – that would give a nice Rambo touch for a big final showdown between the United States and North Korea – then after all this time and that big finale both countries will be able to put to rest the 1953 Korean War.

“South Korea's New Defense Chief Threatens Air Strikes on North”
By Bomi Lim and Saeromi Shin - Dec 3, 2010
Bloomberg News
South Korea’s new defense minister vowed retaliation that would include airstrikes if North Korea makes another attack following last month’s deadly artillery bombardment.
“I will mobilize all combat capabilities available to severely punish the enemy,” Kim Kwan Jin, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said today at a confirmation hearing. “I will surely use planes. This is a matter of self-defense.”
...“The latest tough talk seemed to be mostly aimed at deterring North Korea from further provocations,” said Kim Yong Hyun, a professor of North Korean studies at Dongguk University in Seoul. “There is only so much South Korea can do in terms of tough actions when there’s little assurance of how far North Korea will go.”
...Shipping Warning
South Korea warned ships to avoid 29 areas around its coast starting Dec. 6 as more than 40,000 Japanese and U.S. troops began joint exercises today. One zone lies about 7 miles (11 kilometers) off Daecheong island, in waters claimed by the North that are about 100 miles (160 kilometers) from the South Korean mainland.
...North Korea has more than 5,200 multiple rocket launchers, 100 more than previously estimated, bolstering its capability to attack South Korea’s capital, Yonhap News reported today, citing a South Korean government official it didn’t identify. North Korea has also increased the number of tanks and boosted its capability to intercept planes, Yonhap said.
Fresh from maneuvers in the Yellow Sea with South Korea’s navy, the aircraft carrier USS George Washington will join a force of about 400 aircraft and 60 warships in the Japanese-U.S. exercises today. Drills will include responding to ballistic missile attacks on unspecified Pacific islands, the Joint Staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces said in a statement.
South Korea’s drills starting Dec. 6 will include live firing from navy ships into the sea near Daecheong island, said the spokesman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The area lies to the southwest of the island, in the opposite direction to the North Korean coastline, he said.
The army and air force will be involved in drills in some of the areas around South Korea where regular live-fire practice is planned, said the spokesman.

robdverity since you're an atheist you and I know it does not really matter to you what answer I give you. That said I will give you the answer anyway not expecting you to even care what I say. Muslims ( btw i dont know what Mozlems are as you say ) but Muslims can indeed face any direction in praying thats is not what makes them Muslims, The kaaba was built by Prophet Ibraham the father of the monotheist faith ( in one God )I am sorry but you're really cluless ( again your full right ) but you dont want to have a clue either apparently which takes away any possible respect I could have for you as a guy with informed opinions however different from mine they are. For you to assume that 3 billion Christians and 1.8 billion Muslims and several Million jews in this planet are some stupid people that dont get it as you do is sad even more then it is laughable. However unlike other religions Islam is all about proof in addition to faith itself and I could and would make that point with you but I rather go hang out with my wife that i have not seen all day it seems a better use of my time, sorry. You can however go to decent web sites or listen to some scholars that can explain things better then my humble self, on the top of my head: Yusuf estes very cool guy in my opinion ( American and somebody I know is not crazy as many others I hear about in our days because Islam and Muslims are 2 different things like Christianity and Christians are not always the same thing either.
This is not a religious blog nor is my presence on this site relating to religion, rather because I like and respect this show and I find it a refreshing air comparing to the overly simplifyed and commercialized news today.
I am not a religious person in fact and what I know is basics and I dont claim to be a scholar or anything like that
I will tell you in closing that your theories in none existance of God are in fact more rediculous in my opinion then those of His existance
I will take logic to make my point, the only one, in fact I'll copy and paste one out of endless arguments pro faith and pro God and his existance ( although God does not need us to believe in him, we do ) So you can research this Yusuf estes or I could give you names of Christian scholars and jewish scholars that I find equaly inlighting.
In the issue of the existance of the universe by simple luck or mistake over time I would relay:
...We would like to explore the idea of creation from a purely logical standpoint using simple terminology without religious hype, emotional pre-convictions or superstitions.
What if someone called a 'scientist' tells you his 'theory' of how cars are made is like this:
A salvage yard on the south side of town blows up and all the metal pieces fly into the air and fall back down in one place forming a brand new Chevrolet Caprice automobile.. with no left over parts.. and the motor is running..
Or what if his theory for how a chair is made is:
An explosion occurs in a forest and the trees go flying into the air and then suddenly they combine with some flying cloth to make a beautiful chair... and then it lands in a furniture showroom complete with matching table and lamp...
He further explains that:
An earthquake in California's 'Silicon Valley' causes the computer chips and circuit boards and other various parts to fall out of their boxes and off of their shelves and just come in place together as they are rolling around on the floor and form the most advanced technical computers existing on the earth?...
Or what of his 'Medicine Theory'? He now claims that:
A gas leak in a pharmacy warehouse causes a terrific explosion. All the different chemicals and substances just smash into each other in exactly the correct amounts to produce a miracle drug which cures everything form cancer to heart and liver disease, old age and warts?...
Wait... there's more to this one:
It is all in one formula, packaged in the bottles with labels and ready to sell with no mess left on the floor?...
Now after all this exploding and excitement this 'scientist' tells you of a great place to relax and have something to eat. It is his favorite place and he calls it: "Burger Blast"! He says:
You just go in and sit down and suddenly a 'blast' from the kitchen occurs and immediately a burger lands right in front of you with all the trimmings.. just the way you like it complete with fries, a drink and even your favorite dessert?...
AND...
No one works at "Burger Blast", it just runs itself, automatically cleaning itself and as you leave it scans your billfold for a valid credit card and charges your bank account for what you have eaten?...
Now the question is: "Are you really going to accept any of this as 'fact'?"
Of course not!
...We wouldn't believe a new car is made from flying junk; chairs don't fall down from exploding trees; earthquakes do not produce computers and blasting burgers don't rain down on us from above.
You get my point robdverity. I dont think any of us should claim monopoly over truth and knowledge nor should we ever stop educating ourselves or only look for arguments that reinforce what we already suspect or believe.
Ok, I ended up staying long after all...wow robdverity you have that effect on me dude lol
Gotta go, really.
Good luck and lets get back to the issues discussed on the show please that relay to our dear country and the direction we should take for the futur and the challenges ahead in politics.
I guess beside educating ourselves correctly before deciding we should then keep religion in the heart and maybe within the adequate place and times.
Peace.

Robdverity: A slight revision for Ricky's consideration: substitute Peoria, IL for Tokyo.
*****
Ricardo: I don't understand the point that you are trying to make with Peoria, IL.
What I was saying is that the nuclear weapon attack has to happen against a country that is holding a large foreign exchange reserve in US dollars such as Japan.
This strategy is not about killing people, it's about destroying the entire economic system of your enemy in one shot – in this case a total meltdown of the economic and financial system of the United States – and the greatest international financial crisis the world has ever seen.
I am aware that if such attack becomes a reality – we know the North Koreans have the nuclear capability and the missile delivery system to accomplish such a task before the rest of the world realizes what happened – and that it would be the end of the international monetary system that it has around for the last 60 years. And I have no idea what the world would look like after such a massive global financial and economic meltdown – all I know is that we are not going to have any winners, we are going to have only losers on this deal.
By the way, the United States did not want to kill massive amounts of people as it was the reality of dropping a nuclear warhead in Hiroshima.
They had no military installations on these cities, they had mostly civilians and innocent people living on these quiet places such as senior citizens, women, and children when the United States nuked them.
Americans did not hate the Japanese senior citizens, women, and children that were burn to a crisp when the US nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Again, it was not necessary to nuke a second city, all the US had to do it was to wait a few more days for the world and the Japanese to realize what had happened in Hiroshima.
But the United States nuked Nagasaki just a few days latter, and the reason was to test a different type of nuke to see which type of nuke it was more effective in mass destruction.
You can see the Mushroom cloud from the atomic explosion over Nagasaki at 11:02 A.M, August 9, 1945 at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagasaki
The result of the United States nuclear test in Nagasaki was: The death toll from the atomic bombing totaled 73,884, as well as another 74,909 injured, and another several hundred thousand diseased and dying due to fallout and other illness caused by radiation.
The United States of America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima at 8:15 A.M. on August 6, 1945 killing an estimated 90,000 –166,000 killed in Hiroshima.
It was not necessary to kill several hundred thousand people in Nagasaki only 3 days latter, but the US did it anyway.
From a North Korean point of view, they can win the war against the United States with a preemptive massive surprise nuclear attack against Tokyo.
With a massive meltdown of the US dollar, and collapsing stock markets around the world, with a total meltdown of the financial and economic system around the world – I have no idea how such world would work even on a temporary basis until the international community comes up with a new international monetary and economic system.
After such attack comes to past, I don't think the United States would be in the position to retaliate against North Korea, since at that point China would also retaliate with nuclear weapons against the United States.
.
robdverity 12/02/2010 06:17 PM Report
Ricky - you really want to stand with your first sentence? The first clause negates, refutes actually, the second. Printing tons is a meltdown.
AL1 - as an atheist you're not convincing. ALL religions rely on transitions from the real to the surreal (usually labeled as "faith.") Christians to a 3-day revival and ascension; Moslems to an horse-ridden ascension into 7 heavens; yadda, yadda. All rather fatuous and disappointing. Our species is too vacuous to deserve survival.
Ricardo in his own inimical way epitomizes this. Blithely suggesting the nuking of anything for any reason merely shows the mechanics of how we will inch closer and closer to our eventual self immolation.
Lastly, AL1, ask yourself why you face Mecca 5-a-day and its mythical stone christened - oops - make that named, or called Kaaba if you truly are not a stone worshipper. Could you face away from Mecca and still be a good person? Perhaps but you still choose to face toward a STONE.
But here I step on myself: the stone is more real than our species concept of a God / Allah. At least it's tangible.
AL1 12/02/2010 09:35 AM Report
robdverity lol if you truly think that Muslims worship stones or idols and still claim to be informed or educated you should revise yourself and hit those books again. Sorry budy but Muslims are many thing but idol worshipers they are not.
Muslims and Islam goes out of its way to avoid idols and pictures and statues and its main and most important rule is to worship nothing except the one God.
The God of Ibraham, Noah, Moses, Jesus and Mohamad peace be on them all.
However its one thing to have an opinion other may not agree on and that is more then fine and ok but its all another a different game when you claim that you're so rightous to a point that you seem eager got some nukes to start raining for the commun good ( apparently ) but another to bring made up ideas as facts. I am sure you can easily reasearch it lean more about pilgrims, it would just make you look better specially since you seem to wanna bring it up as much as u can ;)
Ricardo_Amaral 12/02/2010 02:45 AM Report
Robdverity, sorry but if you make that revision then the collapse of the US dollar would not materialize since the Fed would continue printing a ton of US dollar as needed.
For the collapse of the US dollar to materialize the country nuked has to be holding a ton of foreign exchange reserves in US dollars such as Japan.
But again you need to target a place such as Tokyo to create maximum damage to the international financial markets – that would put the entire global financial system over the edge, and that would trigger a massive US dollar meltdown.
If North Korea uses one of their nukes against South Korea they can't create the same type of international financial damage that they would by attacking Tokyo.
Unless Ben Bernanke and the Fed can come up with some innovative ideas which they are full of, and they start printing various types of money in Washington such as, the Pound Sterling, Chinese yuan, Brazilian Real, European euro, and even Japanese yen, and if that does not work then they can always try monopoly make believe money.
.
robdverity 12/01/2010 11:46 PM Report
Agree about the loose inanities re nukes. Our self-immolation I thought would stem from religious backed myths and ideologies a la the Semitic stone worshipers: stones (for wailing at - W. Wall) and stones (for praying at - Mecca's Kaaba).
But thanks to Ricardo the whimsical religious mythologies will be supplanted by sound economic reasoning; to wit: our self-immolation will be brought about for currency manipulation. What a relief that is. You can't imagine.
A slight revision for Ricky's consideration: substitute Peoria, IL for Tokyo. Granted it wouldn't murder as many souls (you can't always have everything), but the psychological impact would be even greater and thus a deeper plunge in the (hated) US dollar. Just a thought. Think about it Rick. Keep up the good work.
AL1 12/01/2010 03:49 PM Report
It is interresting to see some of these comments of people that can't wait to see some nuclear weapons being used in all of these imaginary movies that seem to be directed in their wild imaginations.
Let us first hope for our sake and the world's that none of these options materialize as even in the most modest of them Millions of people will parish.
I think N.Korea is more likely to go the way of Cuba now.
The swiss educated 27 years old takes over after his father's death.
Diplomacy and boring and long meetings will lead to a slow opening of the N-Korean economy and policies following some version of the China model ( a less successful one ). China will take some credit for it. The US will continue the general direction it has now. Eventually maybe even normalizing relations with the North in the futur as crazy as that may sound in present time.
N-Korea has no Oil and our beef and focus will continue to be in the middle east as we all know that being fully involved and invested on both fronts is not a realistic strategy for us.
N-Korea is a crazy and desperate regime but I doubt it is a suicadle one as they surely know they could be wiped out in 24 hours if they make the wrong move. their show of force is very calculated however insane it looks to us, in my humble opinion.

James Rubin mentioned that his wikileaks show with Guest host ( very qualifiyed btw ) Jon Meacham agreed with the idea that "if all Arab Leaders said publicly what they tell us in private, the Arab world would be a much better place" really??
It strikes me as surprising and borderline scary that somebody of his status believes that.
We all know that the reasons why Arab leaders dont share those thoughts with the their public is simply because they would have a coup or even get shot within weeks if they did. We all know that these puppet leaders are not the choice of their people and that has in fact been one of the main fuels of Terrorism at least the propaganda part, in my opinion.
Maybe if that happened in today's troubling electrifyed atmosphere, we are more likely to find less friendly ( to say the least ) leadership to our interest replacing them.
The reasons these puppets lie to their people is because most of them are corrupt, not qualifiyed and do not represent their population, for the most part they only worry about keeping their seat and power at all cost.
I truly hope that today's adm. has a better insight and more realistic and less bias understanding of the true situation in the Arab world which is the source of so much of our troubles here today. Our understanding of the true situation and reality on the groud can only make us safer.
I hope we know that today's Arab youth are a little more informed, educated and aware then generations passed.

The leaks from the department of state is organized and executed by the current administration as part of its preparations for war, which will take place at least on two fronts: at home against corruption on Wall Street and abroad against the remnants of “axis of evil”.
I am very proud of what this administration is doing domestically and internationally. This is going to be a mind-blowing move from rhetoric to direct action.
One of the major investment banks on Wall Street must be publically executed with imposed criminal charges of investment fraud and threatening national security.
Korean peninsula ought to be reunified and transformed into a democratic state, which then could enter a strategic alliance with Japan to outbalance the China’s rising influence in the East Asia.
Winning this war is vital for what this nation stands for and will alongside with the rebounding economy contribute to reelection in 2012.

Options and Predictions by Ricardo:
Like the WikiLeaks leaks, the conjectures of Ricardo are talk off the of the head and noting more. The diplomats and spys who guessed what the enemy had in mind and its character -- real intention or idle speculation -- were soulmates of Ricardo the speculative prophet who tries to guess possibile outcomes of a trillion inputs and processes.
I say North Korea will not go so far as to invite a major bombardment by American air power with conventional but very large penetrating bombs. And my logic and factual knowledge is about equal to Ricardo's.
Not kowing what the future holds, it makes more sense to say what ought to happen not what will.
The ought is much easier:
1. Daddy Kim ought to die.
2. Sonny ought to agree to unite North and South Korea and enter a treaty with China, Russia and the USA aimed at peace and prosperity.
3. Sonny ought to realize Daddy's dream and make the North into a thriving industrial state with a great new movie industry -- rivaling all others in Asia and the west. After all, the North has handsome disciplined people ready for feature films and prime time.

Basically, North Korea has the capability to bring the United States to its knees and create the worst economic crisis the United States ever saw – all they have to do is attack Tokyo with 5 or 6 nuclear warheads.
The United States would implode in no time just like the Soviet Union.
That would be the final blow, and the collapse of the US economy it would be faster than the demise of the Soviet Union.
Now that the North Koreans know and have a confirmation that China is not going to rescue them or help them in any way – in a very similar situation as years ago when the Serbs found out the hard way that the Russians did not show up to protect them, and help them against an attack from the United States.
The United States have cornered North Korea a country armed with nuclear weapons, and the leaders of North Korea know that if they don't use these weapons they are going to end up like Saddam Hussein – hanged for the rest of the world to see it on television and in the internet.

I was expecting to see an interview with John Meacham, and was pleasantly surprised by seeing him as the guest host. It was a really pleasant exchange between the guests, as well.

I wonder if some well known economists are bringing the above scenery and real option for North Korea to the attention of Barack Obama and his senior advisers.

I really enjoy Jon Meacham's perspective and questioning. Please use him as much as possible when Charlie is away.

After such North Korean nuclear attack against Japan the world is going to watch if the United States has the guts to retaliate against North Korea with nuclear weapons.
If the US attack North Korea with nuclear weapons it would be the same as attacking China with nuclear weapons, because of the location of North Korea.

The latest WikiLeaks information gives the impression that China would not support North Korea if the old Korean War re-start – North Korea would be alone and probably would suffer the same faith of Iraq and the leaders of North Korea would end up like Saddam Hussein and some of his military commanders.
That means North Korea has to do as much damage as possible with a first strike with a preemptive surprise attack employing overwhelming force – that means they need to light up the sky over Tokyo with a few hundred missiles including 5 or 6 armed with nuclear warheads.
You can bet that North Korea must have some rogue General among its leaders who have been preparing for this final showdown for the last 50 years.
North Korea has on its side the fact that the United States is under-estimating as usual the potential outcome of the United States actions of provoking North Korea at a critical point of their internal power struggle in North Korea.
It is public knowledge the United States policy of preemptive surprise attack employing overwhelming force, and that gives North Korea all the excuses it needs to go for the final showdown and catch the world by surprise with a first strike against Tokyo with a preemptive surprise attack employing overwhelming force including nuclear weapons.
The rest of the world is ready to watch the final showdown between North Korea and the United States to finally settle the Korean War.

Frankly I loved this episode, adding politicians and officials to Wall Streeters caught with their pants down. But I doubt it will make any difference to anything but the histories, which, as a result, ought to be a lot more lively. I think it is to be expected from now on in this Internet age, and I think it may prove salutary. As was said, we are moving gradually from jealousy to openness. No doubt some will want to remain secretive, but do we really want to deal with them anymore than the dictators we used to? If I were in the diplomacy or spy business, I'd be happy about it. I don't think we ought to let the Sunnis push us into a war with the Shiites and I'm pretty sure transparency is the best way to make sure it doesn't happen. We certainly don't need the snide comments. It is not, BTW, the case that this country, itself, has ever sold weapons and technology...
