Loved the simple and straightforward explanation of cancer and the real issues discussed. I would like my friends and associates involved with cancer to watch this interview. It provides hope to know talented and dedicated people such as Siddhartha Mukherjee are working toward managing and possibly conquering cancer. Thank you.

It seems as if cancer occurs in "unnatural" situations, therefore I would surmise that it is in some way connected with adaptive mutation. For example, an evolutionary attempt to produce a species that can survive in a smoky world, a world saturated with certain chemicals, electromagnetic waves, or microbes.

Excellent conversation Charlie. I have a friend who is going through the stem cell process and she is home building up her immune system. She is a fighter and we hope she will make it. Her granddaughter was 8 or 9 when she died of a different kind of cancer. Her granddaughter had this cancer twice and stem cell process was different for her and she caught an infection and that is what caused her death.

Also have another friend who had cancer twice and she was never a smoker. Her doctor told her if she never smoked it would not come back but it did and she is still with us. These are not the only people I know who have survived cancer. So medicine and technology are getting better.
