      REMant is a total jacka**. Reading his (or her?) post reminds us of the old quote, "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated idiots. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

      This was an immensely enjoyable conversation on many different levels. Foster seems to be as eloquent in discussion of the intricacies of his work as he is masterful at architecture and design. Beautiful thoughts!

      I enjoyed this fella, since he virtually repeated everything I've ever said here, tho I'm sure someone has decorated or hung a painting in an elevator before. Certainly the art is always more important than the building made to display it. The thing about "traditional" buildings is that through experience they solved design problems: tall windows and ceilings, central chimneys, etc. Modernism, as we know it, actually dates from the "renaissance" of Greek philosophy and its "reformation" of religion and politics. That's really what the word means, not something simply later in time. The implication is that those who eschew it are beings of the sort prior to the reform.

      We need housing for the public that is also efficient, both to build and to live in. They are doing some nice things in Scandinavia, but VERY few here. I'd like to see a shell that could be manufactured and sold in pieces like Legos and put together by ppl, themselves, interchangeable, and easily remodeled and resold. Some with windows and doors in them. Inside, similar interchangeable wall sections, and drop ceilings and chases to re-wire, re-pipe and re-duct in. Some of what Fuller designed could be adapted for this purpose. Of course, in more primitive environments a different approach using local materials would be necessary. I've had this idea for something like 50 years and thought seriously about being an architect myself in high school. It seems to me we've been moving in this direction, but extremely slowly.

      Finally!!! Yeah!!! Yeah- no more squares, rectangles, boxes, chicken coups. Movement towards "Beginningless" which spawns Continuum, which is actually comes from movement in a deeper/southerlly direction in which the upper spherical quadrant (wisdom, sophia) gradually opens.
