Could only find a 'Sandra Murphy' (a murderess). Sounds like a juicy story. something along the lines of a 'Keith Morrison' episode of 'Dateslime'.

    2. doodah  09/15/2010 06:52 AM Report

"President Boehner... is so stiff". Ha Ha that's a good one. The comedians would have a field-day with a 'President Boner'. .. now it's time to google, 'Asandra Murphy'. .oh what delights await me?.

    3. NeilMacCallister  09/14/2010 01:46 PM Report

doodah (..or as rob said, "dood" :) ..how about "Asandra Murphy"? I think I'd like her! And please, no President Boehner, he is so stiff and dry that he couldn't lead a stray dog off the freeway. I apologize for the "troll" stuff, my political paranoia was showing again. But you do sound much more creative when you are less "angry". Have a nice day!

      ***

G-man, I'm "Sry" for thinking I know anything at all about the Swedish economy, and your country makes great cars! My personal advice? "One complete argument beats 3 fragments" (..and I believe your gdp/superpower inquiry has the deepest pocket, although I don't agree with it).

      ***

"Vote Power"??? ..Just listen to how Messrs. Rose and Mandelson now speak of the very talented Tony Blair:

CHARLIE ROSE: "How long will it take Tony Blair to get his reputation back?"

Ouch!!! ..What a difference a day makes!! (..and a vote!)

      ***

      There's my 3 fragments!

    4. Gustav  09/14/2010 10:03 AM Report

      NeilMacCallister

Sry, i got confused. I meant those mini buses with civilians. Was it weekly leaks that leaked that?

I got curious about gdp/work hour. Sweden ranks no. 9 in the world? never mind.

no.1 superpower = highest gdp by far

But looks like that will change. It's not my "vote" just how it is right now.

Thank you, I shall work hard in life:P

    5. doodah  09/14/2010 06:47 AM Report

Yes we will be responsible for the results, and if things go well we'll take credit. And if things go wrong, we'll blame somebody else. I'll vote for anybody with the last name, 'Murphy'; 'President Murphy' has a nice ring to it, much better than, 'President Boehner' (no matter how you pronounce it).

And thanks for the definition of 'troll', now I know what commuters mean, when they yell, "Troll!" and throw their half eaten food at me. ..But that doesn't stop me from smiling. :)

    6. NeilMacCallister  09/14/2010 02:38 AM Report

      Where's the conflict, rob?

President Obama told us during his Presidential campaign that he would engage our troops in Afghanistan, work as quickly as possible to answer the threats to world safety that were emanating from there, and then return us home.

Unfortunately, the poll data you share gives no indication of precisely what "handling" those polled Americans are now "less approving of", ..but what it does show is that our President is being watched and judged by voters.

If he manages our troops and our nation as the voters choose, he will get re-elected in 2012. If not, someone describing a different plan of action will then be elected.

So it really is the voters' choice, and we are responsible for the results.

    7. robdverity  09/13/2010 11:44 PM Report

Scuse me dood, but Neil's "For one thing, where we send our troops is still OUR choice.," compells me to intervene with this from the Gallup pole: (So maybe not so much!)

PRINCETON, NJ -- Americans are far less approving of President Obama's handling of the situation in Afghanistan than they have been in recent months, with 35% currently approving, down from 49% in September and 56% in July.

    8. NeilMacCallister  09/13/2010 11:13 PM Report

doodah? ..what do you like about life? ..what do you see as a firm foundation upon which a successful American structure can be built?

Check your facts on Sweden's actual tax rates, and their GDP/work-hour ratio before you move your family there.

And I humbly suggest you reconsider your swear words here, before some people begin to suspect you as some kind of "troll", who is really here to discourage or eliminate public discussion (..prior to an election) by poisoning the well from which we all read.

For one thing, where we send our troops is still OUR choice.

Other than that, ..How's your day going??

    9. doodah  09/13/2010 09:23 PM Report

Wow. Sweden sounds pretty sweet. They're not taxed anymore than we are here (when you add up ALL the taxs (from sales to property to state to federal to social security to estate (did I miss any?), and they GET more (in Sweden) in return. That is, the government does more for their citizens. Why can't it be like that for us common folk citizens in the USA. Oh yeah! That's right, we have to PROVIDE the real meat and potatoes DEFENSE for the rest of freeloading world. Including the pigs in this country that fucked-up our financial system; and probably never worked an honest day in their sniveling little lives.

    10. NeilMacCallister  09/13/2010 06:32 PM Report

Americans do not bomb kindergartens, neither do you Swedes.

The armed forces deployments in Afghanistan have reduced the rate of daily killings there by 25-fold.

The "no.1 super power in the world", is your vote.

      Good luck in life, Gustav.

    11. Gustav  09/13/2010 03:35 PM Report

      Look, Neil and doodah.

I didn't try to demean people in America.

Okay, first of all... People in general are narrow minded, I am too in certain topics. So EVERYONE would do good in expanding their minds.

Fox news is fox news, I both laugh and cry when I watch it and I can't change my view on it... I just find it stupid and obviously biased while saying "fair and balanced".

America is right now the no.1 super power in the world. Companies wants to be there, many rich people gather there. And the taxes isn't high for people with massive fortunes. That's one of the big reasons as too why America gives so much aid through charity.

The people of Sweden has decided that it is our OBLIGATION to help countries less fortunate and has therefore made it the states task to give aid from our taxes.

Now I would like to point out that this was not something I brought up. Foreign aid has nothing to do with people having a broad view or not.

Now about people blowing buses up etc... Didn't the Americans bomb a kindergarden or something? As if it was some videogame? Is that one of the reasons why terrorists exists? When we talk about military aid, is that the same kind of military aid America gave Osama bin ladin during the cold war? Sweden sends troops to afganistan too, you're not alone there.

Whatever, the thing that upset me most is that you don't think there are people in America that is narrow minded, that you don't seem to think that it is ALWAYS a good thing to see others perspective.

ps. I am 21, people below 25 pay about 20% in taxes + the employer tax which they pay at about 7%. when I'm older i will pay 25-30% taxes, and my employer will pay about 20%.

The employer tax is not of my concern, they pay that above my salary, it is not taken away.

Honestly, It doesn't bother me that much. People get a high salary in Sweden, mine is about 3200 dollars per month, which is OK at my age. Free healthcare, pension, and about 80% of our salary when we get sick our can't find a job.

(it is more to it than that, but anyways).

    12. NeilMacCallister  09/13/2010 10:30 AM Report

Thank you Gustav for informing me that the "Peace Prize" is the one Nobel Prize not awarded by Sweden, but Norway.

      ***

But you demeaned "people in America" as needing to "expand their minds a bit", ..yet the fact is, we are already spending MORE than even that 140 billion dollars a year which you have just challenged us with, if you allow our including the active military defenses which we have been required to stretch across the globe in order to suppress "global" peoples from blowing up school-buses filled with children in order to keep those children from acquiring an education.

And your slight at Fox News harmonizes with a growing trend in America which seeks to suppress and/or direct news, discussion, and opinion (..this blog of Charlie's is a generous holdout!)

The absolute "en masse" media brick-wall which opposed any and all criticisms of building that mosque at Ground Zero, is exactly the type of behavior what engenders a regrettable reaction which wants to burn Qurans in order to be heard.

Yes, let's "open our minds" and allow all discussions (..a truly "deliberative democracy"!!)

Maybe we can even talk about your 60% income tax bite?

    13. doodah  09/13/2010 10:13 AM Report

It's a well established fact, that Americans GIVE to charities and volunteer their time 10 fold (10 times more) MORE over than the whole rest of the world. It is so true, that even the most liberal American deamonizers (such as the likes of the late, 'correct', 'Peter Jennings') could not deny, and had to acknowledge that simple and pure FACT.

It is true. Americans are THE most GENEROUS people in the world. If that goes against your belief system.?. Too bad. Your belief system is full of shit. which means you are? well, you can do the math.

    14. Gustav  09/13/2010 08:19 AM Report

      I don't understand your logic?

You asked me about foreign aid, for what reason? who knows...

Yes, there are about 9 million Swedes, and each Swede gives more to foreign aid according to that chart compared to anyone else. You want 9 million people to give as much as 300 something? okey...

(you do realize if we had the same population as America we would give about 140 billion dollars in foreign aid right?)

Norway gives away the peace prize...

I have no bone to pick with Obama, he is "cool". At least, it wasn't him I was thinking of when I mentioned fox news.

There is one city in south of Sweden that has taken in more refugees from Iraq than the ENTIRE America has.

I love many things about America, but I personally think other things sucks. I feel the same way about Sweden.

I would thoroughly enjoy if you would show me diagrams USA vs Sweden in all aspects. With one condition, that they are per capita.

Sweden doesn't need luck, it is growing stronger than most countries in the west right now. (expected gdp growth 2010 is about 4%)

I hope no other Americans feel hurt by reading my posts, it's just that this Neil is being silly right now...

    15. NeilMacCallister  09/13/2010 01:12 AM Report

Golly, Gustav, ..Sweden??? ..That is so cool!!!

Say, ..didn't you guys name our President as the 'Peace Prize Winner' last year?? (..of course that was before he then called all of America's limited-government advocates "..a bunch of racist Nazis" right here on Charlie's program!)

      ***

Sweden has a population of what? ..9 million people??

That is roughly comparable to New York City over here.

Which makes your statistics about as accurate as sampling the students from an expensive newly opened private school, ..and then making a claim in the local newspaper that "This neighborhood's residents represent the smartest race of people in the world!"

      ***

How much did you haughtily say your country has contributed to "world betterment" in each of the most recent years? ..doesn't your cite say $4 billion dollars??

America has given $29 billion in non-military aid, as well as another $13 billion in military aid each year, ..and much more importantly, ..500 American lives! (..in EACH of the last 10 years!!!)

And you laugh at that sacrifice???

      ***

..and then we also find the economic resources to provide Health, Education, and Welfare for more than a million refugee immigrants from all over the world within our borders each year!

Does your "enlightened", "expanded-view" nation do anything close to that kind of work?

      **

Thank you though, for sharing the "visions" of Bill Gates with the cite that you provided.

As Mr. Gates develops those wonderful African nations, ..I am sure that he is intent on ensuring that they all choose Microsoft computing networks, ..as your own country will undoubtedly try to convince them all to invest in Ericsson telephone equipment.

      ***

Good luck in all your country's endeavors, Gustav,

..everyone is doing the best we can!

    16. Gustav  09/12/2010 05:11 PM Report

Of course I dont mean to say that all Americans needs that, but I would think many people in all countries would do good in expanding their views.

And to talk about foreign AID, haha, made me laugh. My anonymous country is Sweden and in proportion to our GDP we have for a few years given BY FAR the most in the world.

Here's a nice chart for you:

      http://www.gatesfoundation.org/annual-letter/2010/Pages/rich-countries-foreign-aid.

I'm not jumping on anybody specifically, nor judging all, but from experience I still hold my view that many/some Americans don't get to hear all the ideas.

    17. doodah  09/12/2010 08:39 AM Report

... and to think I was barking. ;-)

    18. NeilMacCallister  09/12/2010 07:46 AM Report

      doodah, ..yes, BBC-WN does give a nice "fresh slice" of world events;

..but I also credit Larry Kudlow, even though he is so often just way too optimistic about the current administration's intentions and abilities!

      Thank you for talking!

    19. NeilMacCallister  09/12/2010 07:24 AM Report

Gee, Gustav, ..you believe Americans need to "expand their minds" to catch up with the people of your anonymous nation?

The facts show that America contributed $29 billion dollars in non-military Foreign Economic Aid Programs in the last year of record (2007)...

..how much did YOUR nation of "world wide" thinking people contribute?

Something less??? ..Why is THAT, Gustav????

    20. doodah  09/12/2010 07:22 AM Report

I must say, if you really want the 'world' news (via TV), then one must watch the BBC World News reports; because you ain't gonna get it from brian williams, katie incorrigible, or dianne tom sawyer.

    21. Gustav  09/11/2010 05:41 PM Report

As Charlie Rose himself corrected Peter Mandelson, Charlie Rose has a world wide audience.

I think it is refreshing to see topics closer to home, inside Europe at least.

Besides, it will only help people in America to expand their minds a bit. Watching foxnews I would say it is needed...

    22. NeilMacCallister  09/10/2010 01:57 PM Report

We have a national election to seat our United States Congress in 60 days, ..so naturally Bloomberg Media and Charlie Rose want to make sure we are all up to date on the latest concerns regarding Alpha-Synuclein adhesions in the brain, ..and on the current state of English culture.

Meanwhile, here in the "American political world", no one can figure out where jobs come from.

Our leaders are too busy trying to figure out how to get more money into the lifestyles of our President and other political employees, without the public hearing about it too much more.

Next week we will be talking tennis, ..you just wait!

    23. REMant  09/10/2010 01:50 PM Report

Keynesian nonsense and general political double-talk IMHO, more like Brown than Blair it seems to me and quite like what we're getting here, along with same Atlantic partnership line that dragged us into two world wars, and I'm not sure Iraq as well, because I'm not at all sure who was the poodle. Sadaam, however, had nothing whatever to do with Al Qaeda, Sep 11, Iran, or religious fundamentalism and it is unimaginable that anyone with any familiarity with the situation would have thought so. Reducing public spending will increase private investment in the same measure, leaving borrowing and money printing aside, perhaps more, but also increase private initiative. Mercantilism or Liberalism, that is the question...

      Stay tuned doodah.

    24. doodah  09/10/2010 08:55 AM Report

What's this all about? Is Charlie Rose getting bored with American politics?. .. Why would I want to scramble my brain even worse with FOREIGN political gossip?.
