I enjoyed this round table discussion. It saddens me that providers prohibit access to affective treatment of both psychotherapy, and medication and, continue to ascribe toxic stigma upon those with SMI - by wrongly telling patients/clients/consumers, etc that they cannot be both professionals and patients. It's no wonder people with chronic illness either 1) stop taking meds 2) stop therapy 3) or do not seek reentry into vocational fields that provide a sense of belonging, contributing, and well-being.
As we can see, anyone can be a patient and a professional - no matter the illness or profession.
Please, lets take this a step further - end the criminalization of having an SMI - Treatment should not be mandated by courts, jails, or prisons.
Thank you.
