John, ..please don't blame your typo's on your keyboard, or on this website's programmer.
I believe your frustration stems from your desire to walk right into a ballpark, and go right onto the mound and throw fastballs, ..not remembering that all major-league pitchers stop by the bullpen first, warm-up their arm, check their control on their fastball, and the curve on their breaking pitches.
As they head toward the mound, they will look to check the wind's effects upon the flags atop the poles along the outfield wall.
And when they get to the mound, ..even then, they will STILL desire to throw several more warm-up and fine-tune pitches before they submit a pitch to the batter standing at the plate.
***
And it is more than just typo's!
Your accusation (below) that, "Charlie will not pay what he owes me" ..is down-right libelous, is it not?
Your constant demands that there do exist such things as "Spendings without debts", and an American right to "Freedom from Want", ..well, that kind of talk just has to result in a lot of people moving on over to the other side of the room from you, does it not?
***
Why not join the ballteam? ...put on a shirt that fits, ..and have a cup of cool water??
Warm up your pitch on MS-Word, and bring it to the mound when it's perfect!
Good luck! ..Play Ball!!

"J.G. Wentworth can purchase your periodic payments for cash.
Don't wait – get your cash in one lump sum. Get your FREE quote today!"-- doodah has found me out.
I do have Google on my simultaneous task bar. Very convenient.
Doodah-- don't you think CR Show ought to feature post-send edited comments? I would help us both. I'm using $4 keyboard and many keys are weak-- lake "a" and "SPACE", for instance.

I just posted the following IDEA to the Republican "America Speaks Out" website-- as an Idea for JOBS NOW:
The Second Bill of Rights and the Fourth Freedom-- Freedom from Want-- paid for in blood in WW II, need Cash Payment Now. Cash, not debt, is called for. The Fed has the Cash. American Production will make the Cash Good. Import Certificates will protect our Middle Class Wage structure. Inflation Protected Savings are necessary.
======== end post to "Speaks Out" site ======
Brian Williams-- please take note. Doodah-- please tell Charlie. Maybe there is no way to get any attention unless you write a best seller -- like Stieg Larsson. And drop dead before you get spoiled because you did.

To help your cause, JG (Wentworth?.?.?), you might want to end every sentence with a, 'vada-voom vada-bing'. It might not get CR's attention, but I'm sure BW will understand your plight.

To Doodah~
Demagogy: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Demagogy or demagoguery ... is a strategy for gaining political power by appealing to the prejudices, emotions, fears and expectations of the public—typically via impassioned rhetoric and propaganda, and often using nationalist, populist or religious themes. ...
20th-century American social critic and humorist H. L. Mencken, defined a demagogue as "one who will preach doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots."
...
Max Weber:
Plato's discontent with the demagogy then prevalent in Athens [showed his] personal predilection for the aristocratic form of government. ...
In the 19th Century, political reactionaries branded their opponents as demagogues and directed numerous reprisals and censorship against them. Representatives of the German Confederation of German-national and liberal groups were accused of Demagogenverfolgung, subversion, and sedition.
After the July Revolution of 1830, the measures against the "demagogic machinations" were renewed. ...
A famous usage was by the aging Erich Ludendorff, who was for a time a strong supporter of the early rise of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. After learning of Hitler's appointment as Chancellor, he expressed his disappointment to German President Paul von Hindenburg:
"By appointing Hitler Chancellor of the Reich, you have handed over our sacred German Fatherland to one of the greatest demagogues of all time. I prophesy to you this evil man will plunge our Reich into the abyss and will inflict immeasurable woe on our nation. Future generations will curse you in your grave for this action."
Hitler indeed would become regarded as perhaps the epitome of a demagogue, having successfully risen to power through appeals to the ethnic and nationalistic prejudices and vanities of the German people.

end Wikipedia on your link between the current Democratic Party and our concern over Demagogues who rise to power via passionate hates they incite only to commit acts that shame the very people they lead.

To Neil~
You are right Charlie will not pay what he owes me--because he's in business to sell a show more than to rescue his nation from slow fatal error. Not that he would not like to do the latter but because he believes to want change more than fame is a fool's desire.
Charlie always mentions WHO's been at his table. WHO has consented to be interviewed. Their fame makes him famous.
The answer he owes me is that from now on -- until a better future seems to be in sight at the end of the tunnel-- he will have as an objective the use of his website to attract and build a voice of the people with a potential to tell each other how to better solve the intractable problems of the day.
Not that they will replace experts. But that they will add to knowledge not just to let off steam. And that his show helps them to collaborate with each other more than just show off or take satisfaction in seeing their name in print-- even print that scrolls from nothing to go nowhere.

why thank you, Neil. I first thought of, 'Demagogcrats' after hearing (seeing) the word, 'Repugnantcans' on the internet (youtube, I think it was). I think it's the perfect compliment and/or equalizer. And is completely my invention. But feel free to use it as often as you would like. :)
Actually I thought I was the inventor of the word 'Repugnantcans', but upon research of the matter discovered otherwise. .. But, 'Demagogcrat' is all mine. Solely and originally created from my brain and intellect.

Gee guys (..or "JohnGelles"), ..so much is assumed!
I was just "digesting"!
JohnGelles? ..neither Charlie Rose, nor this website's programmer owes you a darn thing! You ought to just say "Thank you", and "Have a nice day!" In an ironic way, you are manifesting exactly what you rail against regarding REMant's comment!
As for my motives or my politics, I care not how other people vote. In fact, I don't want to know. I really dislike those newspapers that list a long "Editorial Suggestions on Who to Vote For" in the days before an election. How demeaning!!!
Hah! ..I do like the words "Repugnantcans" and "Demagogcrats", though!
Thanks, doodah, ..Have a nice day!

B. Williams (IMO) is an extremely arrogant horse's ass. But no worse than many others in his profession. But his coverage of Katrina is NOT why. He and NBC put himself in the right place at the right time, AND focused on what mattered in the here and now. Does that make him 'extraordinary'?. .Only in his mind. and in the mind of the mindless.
Oh! and by the way, NeilMcCallister would like YOU to vote Repugnantcan; he's tired of those Demagogcrats ruining everything.

After sating HIS other objectives-- he OWES me HIS opinion on how well the show and website are meeting those objectives.

if we want our lawmakers to do their duty
JohnGelles 08/24/2010 05:54 AM Report
..... ..... "When we hand out money to the unfortunate, it serves not just to make the recipients dependent, but to not care about being dependent."
.
Neil Mac put the above quote next to REMant's name. Neil was on a mission to name a bunch of commentators whose gems of wisdom shower on this CR fan club's forum.
I guess Neil was as frustrated as myself, over the fact that America seems to be leaderless in the face of the open opportunity to remake global production and trade so that our middle class is re-financed, and our skilled workers are re-positioned to again empower our nation--
..... ..... to save democracy, visit the moon and live with pride not lay-offs and defeat-- by the race to the bottom of wages, benefits and environmental common sense. that allows capital to accumulate by destroying the society in which it exists.
Or I may be wrong. Neil may call the vision above socialism or America Inc. fascism. He may see it as war mongering because its based on victory in WW II and victory NOW-- before we allow lawyers, bankers and 50 state-based representatives in congress to complete the destruction of the American dream and the people who made it possible.
In all events, the QUOTE at the top on DEPENDENCY is the mantra that is doing us in. What Horse S..t are we being fed about bailing out banks as we drown our history and legacy in the garbage that supports only greed and avarice.
Does this assembly of CR fans (and maybe haters, too) really believe its fine to recover out strength and glory by shopping at Wal-Mart-China-Wall Street -- but that it is taking the road to serfdom if want our lawmakers to do their duty.

The superior attitudes...Charlie patting Brian on the back regarding being in the midst of the horror is despicable. Brian, your comment on viewers being SAD and ANGRY after viewing you and your subsequently aired program , well, that is indeed how one feels when encountering the slow motion, maudlin music (film soundtracks, no less), in all, the entire production value - Peabody, yeah, well...what would Murrow think of the glitz? ...the keen editing...do you think the American People are incapable of rendering an emotional response without the cloak of talented filmmaking. The comment about people losing there dignity, implying that yours remained intact and bolstered while others suffered before you, for shame. No individual loses his or her dignity in the course of suffering. "The media found its voice"...because before your report, it had lost it...is that right Brian? Enjoy the self-congratulatory enclave you maintain. Is that not what is important to feel vital?

As a fan of "Nightly News with Brian Williams" I am pleased with Mr. Williams devotion to the effects of Katrina and her lasting imprint on Louisiana.
Never did I imagine the exodus of so many New Orleans' natives!!
I am happy I tuned in to Sunday's Dateline where Brian calmly discusses the pain, sorrow, horror of those caught in the storm and her wrath. I felt each cry, outcry, scream, anger, rage, plea. We should not forget. I know it is easy to forget because with each day, a new heartache appears..but because this tragedy occurred here at home, please folks, let's keep this dear and in our hearts.
Thanks Charlie and thank you BRIAN.
Job well done. Good Journalism!!!!!

I'll never forget a broadcast soon after Katrina where Brian Williams informed us of the complaints he had received for spending so much time on the topic - and how he firmly dismissed those complaints and stated the importance of the story. He continues to keep it in our consciousness now and I very much respect him for it. Thank you Mr Williams. And, by the way, I think you hit it on the head when you said, "This was the first time the classism lightbulb went off in my head." I often wonder how/if we could create this awareness among others, without the trauma of a catastrophe. A year of national service for everyone? What a better country this would be. One can dream...

GOD Takes A Hand in Events a CR Show is About
=============================================
Katrina, Haiti, the Gulf of Mexico BP Oil Disaster, Pakistan's 20 Million Victims of a flood that may be climate related, Netanyahu-Abbas Mideast Peace Talks, and a mixed-race President in campaign mode at last.
Has Charlie Rose risen to the occasion? Has any president ever had so many chances to impress history he was fit for job?
The opposition to President Obama peaked early.
Never has any president been as lucky as the one who took down the Clinton Machine, brought it back to life as his ally, killed three pirates with three shots in one second, and passed laws over stiffer more intransigent opposition than most of us thought could exist.
Brian Williams and I are impressed-- and I have no obligation to hold back. Like Ken Duberstein, who shared the Charlie Rose hour long look at these scenes, I have been on the President's case all summer and spring: he did NOT deliver his promised transformation of America.
But God has delivered his chances. He remains the luckiest president since Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt to have fate pick him to serve (and strike) when the iron is hot.
I can see him finding himself again. Finding that unemployment and a stalled recovery make no sense with two wars and nature on a rampage that rivals every horror and begs for charity that has the potential to rationalize all Southern Asia-- and, after that, globally starved demand.
Is any such future possible in the few short weeks before judgment. Podesta, the other voice of the hour, and I, pray it can happen. I think Williams does too.
Duberstein-- not so much. His own hero Reagan had as much luck: the Cold War was met by a Reagan sense of duty and optimism of a life-saver that allowed no one to drown on his watch as a younger man.
Well Charlie, You and I lucked out so far with our choice of heart surgeons-- when it counted. We are both alive in "interesting times". Your friend the historian Niall Ferguson has it wrong in my opinion-- this is no time for FEAR of inflation-- when deflation has laid us so low.
But I will admit-- we know how to spend away deflation. But no one has ever beat inflation-- except as Niall would do.

i'm always admiring of williams. if this is his passion, as it seems it is, then so be it. it's necessary to re-visit what should never be repeated and we have had more of these instances in recent years than previously.
REM your obviously 'alone' in this forum at least. and I don't handout to the unfortunate, as i agree it belies dependency.
keep rockin' it charlie. never miss a show.

Thank you for this conversation. I likely would have missed the upcoming special, but now have it set for record. At times, Brian's emotion reminded me of listening to Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire talking about his experiences in Rwanda. His website's footnote reads "Are all humans human? Or ... are some humans more human than others?"
robdverity 08/20/2010 05:40 PM Report
Brian may just be pandering to a hoped-for black following, but nonetheless his point is still valid. We came off as the racist bastards that we are. Emergency aid could have been flown-in, boated-in and trucked-in to waters edge within walking range of the victims.
Our same callousness is being exhibited re Pakistan, even when the perceived outcome is potentially dire.
No immediate pol reward, no action. And we wonder why 9/11s happen. It's no accident the defectors to Somalia were black.
JaniceMeagher 08/20/2010 04:36 PM Report
I am so proud of the NBC team for following this ugly chapter in American history. The people of New Orleans deserve to be heard and helped and comforted. Brian Williams is obviously a very decent human being who can't abide suffering. It's too bad so many others can.
charlizecourriers 08/20/2010 01:56 PM Report
An initial mistake can have profound implications. The federal government advised the EVACUTION of cities in the path of the hurricane. Mayor Ray Nagin ignored this advice and the initial mistake was made. When you get to point of rescue by means of last resort, you get the consequences. Brian Williams lives in bubble of delusion.
REMant 08/20/2010 01:42 PM Report
I think Katrina was handled badly and probably unfairly, but frankly I am very tired of seeing Williams down there harping on it every five mins and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. In fact, I think he was in New Orleans when Haiti was going on as well. I feel sure he pursues this mainly because he thinks it an instance of racism, (and I wrote this before it came up in the interview), but blaming the victim is a failing with a long history, and not confined to this country. Even when we hand out money to the unfortunate, we do it with barely concealed contempt and not in the real spirit of community one would encounter even among the poor of a 3rd world country. It serves not just to make the recipients dependent, but not care about being dependent, which creates a vicious circle. If it is possible, Pakistan enjoys an even lower popularity rating. That, incidentally, should be of major concern to the military in Afghanistan, because to be successful we have to win the hearts and minds of the ppl here as much as there.
