I cannot get over how Jerusalem really screws the negociations. I hate that city. It has caused more deaths than any other city i know off.

I guess it was a necessary conversation because he leads the quartet but i don't see what he has added to what we already know. The Mitchell conversation was better. In fact, Mitchell should be the one on the show more often as Tony Blair is really irrelavent as someone who can contribute to the resolution of this. One can only speculate how much credibility he has in the Arab world (the real arab world, not the dictators that run it). And I do not share his optimism. An average interview. Very average.

A particularly cogent observation re the Helen Thomas faux pas. Shamelessly relying on the astuteness of this contributor to USA Today, Malcolm D. McPhee; Sequim, Wash.

"Helen Thomas was certainly insensitive and out of line in stating that Israelis should return to Poland or Germany. However, she did not gratuitously kill anybody, which is more than can be said of Israel. Furthermore, her larger point was quite valid that Israel is occupying Palestinian lands and, I might add, criminally and inhumanely.

"This is America's business because it is primarily U.S. complicity in these crimes that provokes terrorist attacks against us. It is a primary reason Americans are suffering and dying in Afghanistan and Iraq. Israel and its U.S. supporters now urge a U.S. war against Iran and expect U.S. support in any war they provoke.

"Most current U.S. economic, security and military problems are due substantially to these unnecessary or badly managed wars conducted in part to enhance Israel's security.

"The U.S. special relationship with Israel is increasingly becoming a one-way street. If the U.S. is determined to underwrite Israel's security with American blood and money, Israel is obligated to cooperate with the U.S. in seeking peace. If Israel refuses, the U.S. should cut ties with Israel, and then work to impose sanctions on it."

though i sympathize with both sides, i can only guess why the Palestinians act like they have a strong bargaining position. if you know the story of Captain Jack in northeast California, you might see the similarity of a leader being able to do only what their supporters allowed.

regardless of water, right of return or other issues, the Palestinians would best sue for peace as the Soviet Union did.

i wish the Palestinians would take the best deal they can get this year, including contributions from their neighbors and the rest of the world. then they could start having a life.

Disingenuousness as only Israeli's can practice. So they can now import Chiclets and Trojans. The Chiclets only after proof of having used the Trojans.

A good discussion. I just wish I had his optimism. Yesterday's announcement is a start, but it does little to restore dignity or resolve inequities. The Israelis think they have time on their side, but I doubt that.
