The know-nothings who populate so much of golf fandom these days and who think nobody ever played the game as well as Woods have little idea that Watson even existed at all, let alone having any clue as to the level this great player was at for quite a few years. Possibly the most underappreciated all-time great ever, a brilliant guy, and a stupendous physical talent who looks almost no different swinging a club now than he did at 30. I've seen him play in person, and he was a better ballstriker at 45 and 50 than he was at 25.

Comes off as an ingenuously nice sort of guy. With circumstances that put golf clubs in your hands at the age of six it probably helps. Golf takes a special kind of mental discipline. It drove me early from its demands. Wish he'd a parred that last hole. I'm a romantic.
