Stephen Leacock, I recall, wrote a famous short story about people who the newspapers discovered didn't really want to know what the news actually was, but only what everyone expected them to know, which gradually was reduced to the word-of-the-day. I read it in high school. The irony, I believe, about Politico is that the Post brought it into existence by either firing or threatening to fire almost all of them, and now seem to be doing everything they can to catch up. I would think, BTW, if Orszag is leaving it would be over a matter of honor, not incompetence.
