Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was brilliant, and like the reader before me, long to have a leader for the USA who had such deep knowledge and insight about the global financial and political situation and, who could express himself so articulately, so effortlessly as well.
Ricardo_Amaral 04/16/2010 04:34 AM Report
Charlie,
I find unbelievable how American journalists, and most talking heads on TV are so unaware of important issues that are being discussed in other countries such as Brazil regarding currency, Iran and so on…

SouthAmerica: I hope president Lula is not going to propose during the second meeting of BRIC leaders from April 15-16 the creation of a new currency for the BRIC countries.
I hope he will suggest the creation of the “New Asian Currency” similar to the euro, as I have been proposing on my articles for many years. (When these articles were published on Brazzil magazine I did send a copy of the articles to all members of Congress in Brazil - Senators and Deputados - and also to many members of president Lula's cabinet.)
A “New Asian Currency” similar to the euro that Brazil can also adopt as it’s new currency.
In my opinion, the main player regarding the creation of the “New Asian Currency” it will be China, and president Lula should make his case directly to the Chinese Leader.
This is a great opportunity for the Brazilian president to make the case that the creation of a “New Asian Currency” it will be an excellent strategy not only for China and the Asian countries, but also to Brazil regarding the long run.

“China expects BRIC summit to push for Int’l financial reform”
The Daily Mail (Pakistan)
Sunday, April 11, 2010
BEIJING—China said Wednesday it hoped the upcoming BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) summit would push for international financial reform.
China expected the summit to push for increasing emerging economies representation and voting rights in the international financial organizations, which were goals set out at the last G20 summit, said Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai at a news briefing.
At the invitation of Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Chinese President Hu Jintao will attend the second meeting of BRIC leaders from April 15-16. During the summit, BRIC leaders will discuss the situation of the world economy, the G20, reform of global financial organizations, climate change and dialogue and cooperation among BRIC countries, Cui said.
"We expect the BRIC summit will expand strategic consensus, consolidate mutual trust, coordinate to cope with the major global challenges and promote the world economic recovery," Cui said. "Exchanges among the four nations concerning major global challenges would be conducive to increasing the influence of emerging and developing countries, and promoting the development of multilateralism," he said.
BRIC nations have said they would promote cooperation and lift existing barriers when coping with the challenge of world food security, according to a declaration released here on Friday. The agricultural ministers from Brazil, Russia, India and China, got together on Friday to discuss food security, reducing negative impact of climate change, and promoting information exchange and coordination.
The declaration, issued after the meeting, said the ministers have defined the four major areas of BRIC's agricultural cooperation. The areas include establishing the information exchange system, sharing experience on agriculture and food stock, reducing impact of climate change on agriculture, and developing agricultural technology and innovation, it said.
In addition, the ministers called on the international society, especially the developed countries, to support developing countries with capital and advanced environment-friendly technologies, so as to help them realize the sustainable development of agriculture, said the declaration.
It added the next BRIC agriculture ministerial meeting is scheduled in 2011.

Congratulations Charlie for interviewing a very interesting guest.
Charlie, you need to read the latest book by John Naisbitt for you to understand what has been happening in China in the last 20 years.
I am reading the book right now, and this book gives you insight information about China that you will not find anywhere else. John Naisbitt is a real expert about the transformation that is happening inside China.
You cannot understand a new paradigm by using the vocabulary of the old paradigm.
He also said: “China in 2009 is creating an entirely new social and economic system – and a political model.

dear Mr Rose,
Why did u not ask him about the powers of detention without trial? Why did you not question him on how policy in Singapore is formulated? Lee Kuan Yew has gone on recored as saying that "we decide policy, we don't care what they(the populace) think. This is a dictatorial society in which the population have no right whatsoever to voice descent. If you want an example, view the NUS forum where Jamie Han stood up to ask LKY some rather penetrating questions. His irritation at coming under questioning he was not prepared for speaks for itself. The next NUS forum's student were handpicked and their questions had to be submitted before the forum. Just google NUS forum/jamie han

Dear Mr.Rose,
You are still the most brilliant interviewer. You bring out the best in your guests.
Your conversation with Mr Loong is a case in point.
Mr. loong is an very articulate and engaging man. He is a leader who has a
balanced view of the world and it's problems. He and his family have contributed to a stable economy in Singapore. He is pro American but he voiced some reservations about our policies.
Thank you Mr Rose for all your years of interviewing and may there be more
meaningful conversations.
robdverity 04/15/2010 06:52 PM Report
Mr Loong is a paper tiger. His values that Paulson, Bernanke, Geithner were heroes of the moment will not last when the extended reality of the big banks corruption hits the second more discernible dip. Character is lacking THERE as much as here.
