THE PARTS ARE ASSEMBLED IN CHEAPEST [WORK] MARKETS, SHIPPED TO PLANTS WHERE CARS ARE BUILT--THE POTENTIOMETERS OR ACCELERATOR SWITCHES-- WERE OUTSOURCED TO CTS -A VENDOR, WHO IS BUT ONE,OF MANY WHO DIDNT--MEET QUALITY EXPECTED, THAT NOW HAS TO EAT THE COSTS OF PRODUCING THESE REPLACEMENT ITEMS FOR FREE AND TOYOTA HAS TO REFIT THEM FREE AND EAT CROW ABOUT THEIR QUALITY--BOO-HOO

The Federal investigation, as I understand it, was bought off. Regarding the PR, there is the case of Ford's Explorer and Firestone tires. I don't agree much with the claims of US carmaker quality. Ford's Focus, for instance, has had pins that rust out in its front suspension and roof racks covered with vinyl, which disintegrated in the sun, as all such external vinyl has for a couple of decades, and stainless steel is not exactly a new invention either. There are many, many such recalls that never make the nightly news, with Diane Sawyer, or anyone else.
