Kind of a cheap jab at the Second City at the very end from both Scott and Rose, who both regularly sneer at the so-called "heartland" (and I have no relationship with Chicago or the "heartland" in any way, writing from Washington). It was so Manhattanite, in the worst and most predictable way, so as to effectively moot out the preceding observations as merely the exchanges of an insular community.

      And of clear mind. :)

Good to see you're still healthy and strong, TABS. ;)

Figures they are all flicks I have no interest in seeing. The usual suspects, tho. Nothing controversial to be found. I'm sure they'll pick the black or the woman as director for reasons apart from their work. Hopefully they'll choose decent performances, instead of giving out awards for seniority, but in my mind there isn't a lot to select from. They might tap Bullock and Bridges, but I doubt I would. Better than Streep and Clooney, I guess. Supporting statuettes seem mostly to be given to encourage noobs or as consolation prizes, but in recent years they've segmented the market so much nearly no one is left out. I suppose the bomb squad or the 3D sci-fi extravaganza will be best pic, in the interest of pandering to public opinion in these lean times. Count me out. And forget the ceremony, too.
