I think they will get a lot of sympathy, but unfortunately lose a lot of the investment which was beginning to head that way. But you can't imagine a place more beset than Haiti: the slave rebellion that made it a pariah, the inhospitable landscape and over-farming that has driven ppl into the cities, the civil strife, the tropical storms, the fault line... It is hard to believe that world powers a few centuries ago fought over these islands like they fight over oil today. I don't see how aid could have got there sooner, but it is not likely to be soon enough. Despite fears of being literally overrun the Dominican Republic is treating those who manage to get there. Yet there is bound to be looting and the rest. I'm making my contribution, tho I hope I don't get sent another T-shirt - I already have one from the Tsunami and another from Katrina - but if I certainly I hope it is made there.
