All of this recent business strikes me like one of those over-the-top John LeCarre novels, which potentially causes more trouble through overreaction than the act itself ever could. That's not to say I, myself, would have been happy with the performance of the security system, particularly if I were on that plane, but things must be kept in perspective. Above all this must be a business for the govts involved in that area. We cannot allow this to become seen as a war against Islam or the Arab Mideast. That is exactly what the radicals want. The history of our relations with the American Indian tribes is a very good analogy for understanding this. Nor should it be surprising that they become like Mafiosi in order to live. In reality this is a test for the "community organizer," which it seems to me he is failing.

COIN is difficult to understand in the abstact, CT looks

deceptively simple. Establishing more and bigger buracracies

in DC just puts more layers and more rules between the people in the field that know what's going on and the White House. It dampens risk taking, hunches, instincts and action. Mr. Crumpton, a few CIA officers, and a few dozen SpecOps cleaned out the Taliban in 2001. They were on a very long and loose leach, initiative prevailed, results followed.
