REMant 01/12/2010 04:21 PM Report
Some political cartoonist should draw Obama bursting out of a phone booth ala Clark Kent, as "Spinman." Not mentioned are the Republican contentions, likely true, that the Senate bill increases taxes well before it provides any benefits, and that it expects large cuts to be made in Medicare and elsewhere that will not likely be made, given the usual propensities of Congress. I doubt very much that there is so much inefficiency in the system to make the savings required to pay for the expansion, and I doubt there is so much profit in the system to do it, either. While I don't agree with this program as a sensible method to address the costs caused by inflation, I do think it addresses to some extent the fact that health care is to a large degree a natural monopoly, and there is considerable value in that, but just how many dollars can be had from it is another question.
