We may muddle thru, as he says, but we certainly have a point of view, and I'm not sure I'd call it pragmatic. I certainly hope the Chinese want to unlink themselves from us, and realize that a cold war of any type is not profitable. Their bankers, tho, today were perfectly correct in saying that our monetary policies were driving up the price of commodities. We did have a Pacific NATO, of sorts, called SEATO, but the Vietnam War proved its undoing, and it was never as much of a force as NATO to begin with. I don't know tho what would be considered the object of creating a new one, nor am I sure, for that matter, what the object of NATO is anymore. The area already has ASEAN, but it doesn't include China or the US, and I suspect most of the countries in the region want to keep it that way.
