      I think most newsmen have long realized that writing in the first person is probably more honest, if not always more objective, which is probably chimerical anyway. Editors, I think, have to have good suspicions and the ability to formulate good hypotheses and this can only come from experience, though I think it also requires a quality of mind that reporters often lack, and, as Kaplan noted, vice versa.
