My favorite example of this is yogurt, which contains little more of value than the milk in it, but is loaded with sugar in most cases, and promoted by lots of advertising. I think habits play the biggest role in eating, and if you can persist for a while in not eating lunch, for instance, you will soon not miss it. Not snacking is similar. The point is to keep busy so that you don't think about it. Eating better, is, of course, important, too, but just an ordinary food pyramid-balanced diet is good enough IMHO. Problem is that a lot of ppl do not want to shop, cook or clean-up, basically because they are too lazy, and possibly, too, because they are single and/or overworked. I might add that I think peanut butter is more fattening than is widely appreciated, esp if it is half margarine, in which case it is bad period. Peanuts are the basis for Plumpy'nut, which ought to tell you something.
