I probably haven't seen him on TV as much as has been mentioned, but it seems to me that he could not possibly be effective, because it is always the same stump speech, at least whenever I have, but the point about his several appearances on 60 Mins was well taken. It does depend on personality. Ppl eventually made fun of LBJ's clumsy attempts at being everyone's kindly uncle. In Obama's case he risks being viewed similarly as pedantic or priggish. I thought so in his lecture to Congress. I am supposing he has been doing a lot of this gabbing recently because of the widespread feeling that he hadn't provided enough leadership up to the Labor Day recess. I think tho that the Bush admin was even more media-prone, not less, tho it may not have chalked up as many primetime minutes. The Republicans have failed in my opinion mainly to present an intelligent and unified alternative, of which there is one, and which would allow them to go on the offensive, or even possibly help the president contain his left wing. They have come close to it, but then seem to feel they must make concessions to various curmudgeons and SAC retirees. Boehner would be better off too, to let his wife iron his shirts more often, and cut out the beach vacations. He comes off a little too much like George Hamilton and I'm not sure attractive to even the folk in Orange County. None of this is quite as bad as in France, tho, where the press found people busing in short workers to surround the little corporal at a factory tour recently. I guess his shoes were not deemed sufficiently elevating.

Where did you find so many reporters who thought Mr. Obama is fluent and explains things well? It is embarrassing to hear our president stumble and hem and haw; it shows a person who cannot think clearly or concretely, and this is scarey. Then he keeps saying he will cut billions from Medicare and I haven't heard anyone who doesn't blatantly say that they don't believe him, yet he offers no further explanation. We spend a lifetime reading body language, and this man fails at every opportunity to speak freely. He can read a speech and seem "inspirational", but we don't need inspiration now; we need facts. And I voted for him. I want to shout from the rooftops "The Emperor has no clothes!"

This show demonstrates why it is time for Mr. Rose to retire to Henderson,N.C. and set up the Charlie Peete Rose Memorial Museum. The time has come for someone else to torture innocent electrons subsidized by the American taxpayer.
