      Attributions to gaining the apporobation of God seems a bit fanciful to me. But admittedly that's coming from an apostate atheist. Gaining unmitigated power is more likely. With power the illusion of love is easilty deluded into.

      I don't agree with this assessment either. Only Americans or Brits would assess other ppl according to whether they want to be accepted or loved. I am sure the Iranians don't give a fig for that. They are interested in establishing an Islamic republic and gaining the approbation of God, not of any men and certainly not any infidels. I also do not like Meacham's attitude, nor in recent weeks the line the magazine has been following.
