This is just another means of transmission like cable and phone for content which has been available on demand from the latter for some time, and in a far better quality than is likely to even be approached on the Internet for a considerable time. Furthermore, to access it requires a considerable upfront payment for Internet bandwidth. While I think it is fair for ppl to pay per view, I do not think it is likely to amount to much, at least for a long time. It is like the Kindle, a nice idea whose time has not yet come. In addition, TV suffers from piracy every bit as much as other digital media and most all the shows can be found in non-streaming form on UseNet and peer-2-peer networks almost immediately and in higher resolution. The big tho problem with all of this is that as media have improved, content has declined. McLuhan's hypothesis has become actuality - the medium IS the message.
