Thank you for haviing a conversation with Rachel Maddow. She and you contribute mightily to thenation's intelligent dialog. Keep it up andhave Rachel on again.

Oh man, she's amazing; i always like to watch her show every night at 9 p.m.; so far, i like the way she has conducted herself on tv, she is been honest, she's well informed, and she doesn't have the need to engage in childish fights (which is the new trend for pundits nowadays), which allow their guests to feel comfortable enough to inform the audience or to throw their lies and be seen as fools on national tv; Rachel, a job well done and thanks to Charlie for the great list of quality guests you always have for your show !

Thanks for having Rachel Maddow on your show, Charlie.
It is refreshing to have an intelligent progressive woman who is not afraid to address woman's issues, as well as other critical issues, that other cable news shows don't.
The corporate media has become a form of entertainment, if shows like Rachel and the great work of Jon Stewart are what is needed to reach and educate the public, then I will take Rachel and Jon Stewart over the alternative any day.
Thanks for the great work Rachel, I am a fan.

Agreed - Gov Mark Sanford, exhibit one.

Chris - wish I'd a said that.

She is smart cookie. i think she ok. Except, there is a trend in the left media. They are becoming like the right wing media. In that their point of view (which is my point of view) is portrayed as the correct point of view and that anything else is somehow irrelevant. And those Jon Stewart moments on her show is a complete turnoff. There is also a certitude about how she defends her positions that is not my vibe at all. But, I don't want to bitch her too much, I agree with her personnally on a lot of issues, she is obviously sucessfull, it's just, I guess i'm too much of a Charlie Rose fan. And when you watch Charlie Rose, it is hard to watch MSNBC, Fox, or CNN (although it has lightenned my cable fees!). For a lefty, she is ok, but it ain't Bill Maher. If you want entertaining opinionated lefty news, the real king is Bill Maher.

Mr. and Mrs. Goofiness Critic, may I present you with the one (and thankfully the only) 43rd President of the United States, Mr. George W. Bush, his Mission Accomplished banner, and his mangling of the English language.

It is just such a refreshing delight to have programs like these which go beyond soundbites and standard blather. Nice too that podcasts are available for both Maddow and Rose - for those who may not have previously watched a given program. Great initial interview - hope it's just the 1st of many!

winter-- What you critique as "goofiness," many of us see as charm and personality. It is part and parcel of RM's public persona, not a roadblock to taking her seriously. Charisma is an asset; the network will not squeeze her as dry as your cited examples "George Will, Roberts or Stephanopolous." I welcome the beautiful synthesis of analysis and expressiveness in political debate.
mabraham 06/20/2009 07:10 AM Report
Agree or disagree with her, she is eloquent and learned, which is what makes her the exception on cable.
To REMant, homosexuality is part of the human condition and is not a choice. As such it is no more "reprehensible" than heterosexuality and asking gays to use "self control" to not have a sexual life is bigoted discrimination.

Rachel, I like your show. A little heavy on the booze at times, but intelligent. Try not to kiss Charlie's posterior too much, OK?
I used to think a great deal of Charlie's show, but when he books the Georgetown Cocktail Party Queen, Mrs. Benjamin Bradlee, on the same night with the superb Steve Pearlstein and yourself, one really has to wonder about Charlie's priorities. It's not a secret that Charlie plays to the Big Bucks Crowd, although he's not had one of his favorite Sugar Daddies, Hank Greenberg, on the show in some time. Turns out ole' Hank's trying to keep his backside out of the financial hoosegow in a New York courtroom.
Although, one imagines it's about time for it to FelixRohatyn on the Charlie Rose Show. Expect a full 60 ticks with the former Lazard Prince sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Not an MSNBC watcher so sorry I've missed her to-date. Agree with everything she said tonight so will switch unless PBS is competitive. I particularly agreed with her Iraq, Af-Pak views. We fear al Qaeda planning for our annihilation in Pakistan, while Yemen and Somalia et al are just as virulent hatching grounds. We would have to conquer the world - to no avail long term. The M-I oligarchy would love the attempt nonetheless. She's a sharp lady.

Rachel is one of the good people. I'm alligned with most of her points of view (...theres evidence for you!) but her show will foray into the occaisional satirical treatment of the opposition which I've always thought was the other sides desperate tactic.
She could and does render the opposition with nowhere to hide where any attempt to defend their empty moral viewpoints are concerned. Can the goofiness Rachel and you'll leave no room to not be taken seriously ala George Will, Roberts or Stephanopolous. I hope she lasts with a few minor adjustments.

Not getting MSNBC I haven't seen Ms Maddow. Gathering tho that she is gay, all I can say is what I've said before, that self-control is another option, and usually sorely lacking. On the subject of foreign policy, I found it interesting recently to see in some foreign reporting on Somalia that they actually do have a functioning govt. One of the officals interviewed wished that instead of buying off pirates the ransom money was given to them so they could afford to fight them. And from the look of it, they are right.

Rachel is terrific! I watch her daily & think she is the best on all the cable networks. She is not combative, she has guests on to represent the issues of the day, even if they disagree with her. She holds her guests accountable, because she does her homework!
Rachel makes no bones about critiquing Obama's policies, & the fact that he is maintaining many of those GWB policies we loathed!!!
It's wonderful to have another bright woman in the thick of politics.
Three cheers for Charlie having her on. Hope he has her back many more times~
