"Many of Charlie's guests, it seems, have dubious manufactured public personae. Very few of them seem to be authentic individuals. I suppose it's because Charlie usually looks to the most predictable, conventional, safe places for guests."

      esantoro,

For Charlie Rose, the password for guests covers five letters.

      M-O-N-E-Y

Love Charlie. Love Golf. Nantz comes across like such a pretentious person. He has probably lead a very privileged life. Though he is probably a decent fellow, he lacks graciousness, humility. He probably doesn't even notice it but *he should*!

I was somewhat ashamed of my reaction to this club-house effetism and banter. Some of these posts seem to suggest I'm not alone. Came off as "We're special, we're the golden-spoon crowd. Eat your heart out. We play golf every other day, play bridge at the club house and then enjoy dinner in the evenings with our trophy wives."

"And we haven't had an original thought since grade school and hearily endorse whatever the current orthodoxy is and the extant media effluvia." Hollow?

I don't follow golf and hadn't known who Nantz was, but everything about him rung hollow, his voice, style, rhythm, diction, trite family stories, overall manner.

I'm not surprised that when you start checking around, you'll start digging up the buried bones of which NoPardon writes.

Many of Charlie's guests, it seems, have dubious manufactured public personae. Very few of them seem to be authentic individuals. I suppose it's because Charlie usually looks to the most predictable, conventional, safe places for guests.

Such individuals are not, as Charlie frequently likes to think, The Best and the Brightest that America produces. They are, as NoPardon puts it, shameless opportunists who have cashed in on generations of family connections.

Occasionally, Charlie does have real people on, and they are beautiful.

Jaime Diaz = Pure Talent + Grace...while Jim Nantz = Blatant Opportunism + Abuse of Dad's Conservative Family Values

Jim Nantz's father was a truly evil man who taught his son racism and greed. Nantz's father worked to make his wealthy white male friends that much wealthier and advocated strongly against Brown vs. the Board of Education and strongly for the criminal prosecution of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Nantz's father hung around with Rush Limbaugh's miserable sire. Need one say any more?

    7. thewolf  06/19/2009 01:59 AM Report

Please Mr. Nantz plug your book again. and again. and again. "One day I'm going to work for CBS Dad" Are you Serious. You are a fucking wank! 41? HA. Charlie, I love ya, but Fuck, man? I think you can get a better guest.

    8. REMant  06/18/2009 05:19 PM Report

Between Nantz's dulcet tones and the background music watching golf always puts me to sleep.
