Given the ratios (1:57 AM) backwardness and violence are not limited to the Islamic world. Indeed, Israel shows the world how to go about it.
As to Israel's commitment re settlements, if they keep practicing they might get it right. Holding breaths - aint recommended however.
ShalomFreedman 06/07/2009 03:16 AM Report
The whole Islamic world's well- being, all its poverty, backwardness, violence , internal conflict will be solved by doing one and only one thing, preventing Israelis from building new homes for the children of those people who live in Maale Admumim and Efrat.
How idiotic.
Another slight dishonesty from this panel. Israel has already committed not to build new settlements. No one seems aware of this.

Forget it, its too late. Its been too late. The IDF has killed too many wives, children, mothers and assorted relatives for any conciliation to ever come about. Revenge is an emotion that can't be forgotten or swept under the rug so easily.
That and its been said the IDF rank and file will never enforce any plan that removes settlers from the occupied territories and instead commit mutiny in support of the settlers. I don't know if Obama is just going through the motions like every other President has or what but the lack of any real progress towards justice for Palestinians for so long, while every President has paraded an empty "look what I did for peace in Israel" fanfare; it just falls on my deaf ears. Americans should just feel lucky they don't have to live under such apartheid in their everyday lives. Criticize Israel too much and it'll happen.
"IfAmericansonlyknew.com" is a website that reports the truth that you may not find or know of ...check it out.

Obama is incrementally morphing into the Cheney/Bush ideology re war. On Bill Moyers Journal to night it was pointed out that Black Water type contractors were operating in both Iraq and Af-Pak. In the thousands.
Further proof the M-I oligarches have total control. Obama is a mere puppet, which makes his 'studued' rock-star constant on-stage publicity all the more insidious. He's fronting for and being a PR man and king lobbyist for the M-I oligarches.
His 'charm' is disarming and the more disingenuous for it.
From Moyers PBS site: "In this week’s JOURNAL, Bill Moyers spoke with investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill about the role played by hi-tech weaponry and private military contractors in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
"Scahill argued that most American citizens have become so removed from the harsh realities of war that further conflicts are becoming increasingly likely:
“I think that this is sick, where you turn war essentially into a videogame that can be waged by people half a world away... It sanitizes war. It means that we increase the number of people that don’t have to see that war is hell on the ground, and it means that wars are gonna be easier in the future because it’s not as tough of a sell... The United States has created a new system for waging war where you no longer have to rely on your own citizens to sign up for the military and say ‘I believe in this war, so I’m willing to sign up and risk my life for it.’ You turn the entire world into your recruiting ground.”

In his speech Obama ignored the fact that the Zionists had planned to take over the Middle East Lands since Theodor Herzl founded the Zionist Movement in the late 1800s.
The United Nations must decide if the Land called Israel is meeting the conditions of the UN resolution which authorized the taking of land from the Palestine People and giving it to the Terrorists that rose up against the British Mandate of Palestine. If NOT, then Israel must be considered to not exist and all the land belongs to the Palestine People.

Perhaps it was better to have gone over there than to make the speech here, and while it is nice, as the Wash Post put it, to call for a new beginning in American-Muslim relations, I think it's still pretty cheeky and condescending, and I see no reason for it anyway. This is the second attempt, too, if memory serves. He could have, instead, asked all the leaders one-at-a-time to Washington like he did Netanyahu and Abbas, or he could simply have asked to visit them all like the Secy of State might. Now he's off to give the "holocaust" equal time. Seems to be the way the West Wing thinks and doesn't seem to get any better with changes in admin. Maybe he thinks he's running for world president. But maybe he's just taking a page from Ahmadinejad's book. One wonders if he'll fly to Athens to explain democracy to the Greeks. And speaking of lecturing, if the French govt considers Islamic dress to run counter to their ideas of good citizenship they have every right to say so. Demanding freedom of religion equates to demanding a particular kind of govt, a disestablishment where everything is a matter of opinion and contract, and nothing of truth, and it demeans religion. And I presume they all applied to be French citizens, at some point. The French have the peculiar idea that everyone is entitled to be equally French. I am not sure we are any different. They have no intention, I think, of being tyrannical in doing this, but quite the opposite. Abandoning the state to interest groups as we do here is no advance in freedom. The speech, itself, appears to me a rather pedestrian and badly written conglomeration of the virtues of the American way, whose only real virtue seems to have been to lay out the admin's foreign policy, which I do not think is appreciably different from McKinley's, the section regarding democracy belied by the rest of it. Whoever said here that it was like a State of the Union put his finger on it pretty well. Personally, I have no idea what we are doing the Middle East in the first place. All we need to do to solve this problem is to stop supporting Israel and get out of the way. I am in no way prejudiced, it is a matter of mature judgement, not its absence, and the older I get the more clearly I see why nearly no one has ever liked them. It is not a matter of religion per se anyway, but of cultural integrity and territoriality. If it really were it might be amenable to resolution. I certainly do not think he has a chance of soft-soaping the issue and emulsifying it in the global pot, which might actually happen more surely without his help.

Maybe, just perhaps, the Semites might deserve each other. Equity on what metric. Perhaps the kill ratio - if humanity has a place in your value-system. Is it 100:1; or 1000?
It's a black hole. It's gravitational depravity should suck the remainder of the species into it's yawning maw. How can it not. Hatred will out in an ultimate Armageddon.
Obama needs to get out of the way. Let the immutable laws of natural reactions play out. As he should do with the financial chaos. Some things should not be intervened.

I am such a sucker, I loved the speech. Roger's analysis of the speech was exactly my observations on the speech. I think that for regular Muslims, settlement expansion is that "bone sticking in their throats". (Never mind the serious problems in their own countries). Also, I really think that settlement expansion fuels the anti Semitic myth that Israel wants to take over Palestine (there, I support the two state solution ;-) Nevermind, that only a few right wing, often religious crazies, support this. The main challenge for Obama is how to convince Netanyahu to rethink his expansionist foreign policy, without breaking Israeli support (too much). It will be very touchy because the US must continue to support Israel... And I don't know how Obama is going to do it.
Oh, and Mohamed really got it right that to help Obama, Muslims have got to stop blaming Israelis for all the problems (the very definition of anti-Semitism). I am amazed in conversations with educated Muslim buddies, they have an irrational reaction to Israel (why would a Moroccan hate Israel; it is so far away!)
