Disconcerting that chuckster's comment has been deleted. Why? My wheels come off in impetuous rage. Reveals a microcosm of the national sentiment. If he is provoked into wishing to confront the likes of me in a dark alley, why get in his way of saying so? Commentary here is diminished now, not enhanced.

chuckster, you qualify. The Air Force needs you. You doubless would get-off bombing mud huts and maiming humans at half a world away from Cheyenne Mtn.

Name the time and alley. I'll be there. And pls bring Rummy.

Instinctively, dislike his stance and policies (old and now).

The surge only worked through extortion payments of sorts to the Sunni insurgents. This is borne out by the current resurgence in sectarian violence. A potential ever pending powder keg awaiting our departure. The M-I oligarchy will gleefully use it as fodder to justify sustaining the Iraq conflict ad nauseam.

Air force types are inherently self adulating cowards. Their craft is built-in CS. Pilots kill civilians from thousands of feet. Virtually no dog fights as no opposing air force. Ground-fire only. Yet they all swagger. Smug BS. McCain included. Being shot down should detract, not enhance. He was bombing a civilian power plant. CS. The Air Force carrying on their CS tradition in drone missile attacks in Pakistan - recruiting Taliban in the process. But again, the M-I oligarch’s mouth water as they see the prospects of a protracted war (with each civilian killed).

Lastly, you gotta be a vacuous sob to defend Rumsfeld - even mildly. The epitome of American arrogance that reflects where we are in the world.

This one, I think, is another enthusiast, which many air force officers are, because they never actually see war. Most of them, like the old battleship admirals, still believe wars can be won by bombing. I never believed a word he said in office, and don't think he can get away with blaming the problems on ppl outside of the Pentagon now for the fact that they underestimated the effect of creating a political vacuum in a country in which sizable portions of the population had been terrorized by a minority, or who failed to foresee the opportunity this would give extremists to exploit. This kind of book, which it seems he didn't even write himself, is always an apologetic.
