Rest in peace Mr. Updike. You cheer us on, the young and nervous scribblers. Charlie, your show is the only Algonquin Roundtable on the web and on tv. Please continue on in the Mike Wallace fashion --ie. keep working way up the road as you enter new decades. I thank you.

This is the kind of program one is simply grateful for having. The appreciative insights here help the long-time Updike reader better understand him and his work. David Remnick's comment that Updike was essentially happy with what he was doing, seems to me right on the mark. Updike after all was a Success story even beyond his own early expectations. And as one who knew how to and loved to do the work, he was especially blessed by the abundance of opportunities he made for himself, and his Success gave him.

Charlie Rose once again shows his understanding and appreciation for cultural creators and contributors of highest quality.

Well Charlie, this is a fine example of harnessing three brilliant minds to fete the life of Updike. Thoroughly enjoyed.

A pause to wonder though; the lives of Jim Harrison and Lee Burke Jones are in the approaching, if not there, the seventies. And yet, they have yet to grace the round table.

When Judith Jones spoke about Updike chronicalling the second half of the 20th century.....Harrison did for Michigan what Burke has accomplished for New Orleans. They have each captured the tipping points that constitute irrevocable losses in those States today. Eye witnesses, as it were.

In fact, I've heavily researched both and can't find any interviews. Had they been asked to join you and refused..possible.

I rely on your full and wise brain. Thank you again for Updike, a delight.
